My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

ERNIE IN OMAHA, NEBRASKA HAS BEEN ADOPTED!

If you think Ernie could be that bright ray of sunshine you need in your life, please fill out the adoption application on our website at www.brusselsgriffonrescue.org or direct inquiries to Jan at nbgrtexas@yahoo.com . Ernie is being lovingly fostered in a private home near Omaha, Nebraska.

If you are seeking spunk, tenacity and a positive attitude in your new life companion, Ernie just might be the little man you've been yearning for! This happy go lucky little guy was found as a stray, so his previous life is a mystery for us, but what we do know is he is one up beat fella who seems to always be walking on the sunny side of the street!

From the first day he walked into his foster home Ernie quickly made himself comfortable, even finding his own spot on the big bed that very night with his foster family and 4 legged foster siblings. Despite some vision loss from untreated dry eye before coming into rescue, he quickly learned to navigate his new surroundings inside and outside his foster home.

Ernie's favorite activities are meal time, exploring the back yard, keeping his foster mom and dad in line by following them about the house, snuggling on their laps....and ALWAYS with his giant sock monkey nearby! His foster mom fondly refers to him as her cuddly Khaula Bear because he is so irresistibly cute and endearing!

Ernie is a Brussels Griffon - Pug mix (the best of both breeds), neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heart worm negative, on monthly heat worm preventative, micro chipped, approx. 8 yrs. old, and weighs just 12.6 lbs.

Ernie will need a stay at home family or one who can take him to work with them because he will need eye drops several times per day to keep his eyes properly lubricated and prevent deterioration of his limited eye sight.

He has a follow up appointment with the eye doctor in a few weeks. Dry eye is very easily managed with eye drops or other meds. Ernie will need daily treatment for the rest of his life. You can learn more about dry eye at this link

Keep in mind that we prefer to place dogs within driving distance of where they are being fostered. If someone from outside the local area is approved for adoption, they must be willing to fly in to get the dog and that can only happen if the dog is stable enough to travel in the cabin with the passenger.
