Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Sammie is family “move-in” ready and brings joy wherever he goes. He’s great with kids, has great house manners, walks nicely on a leash and loves to play. He’ll play for hours with a latex squeaky toy and never destroy it, given the duration of play, we’ve limited him to the less noisy squeakers. While playful, he is very content sleeping under foster mom’s desk while she works. Yes, the photo proves he loves my chair as well. He loves to crawl up on her lap or foster dad’s lap for TV time and kisses. He’s been good visiting a home with border collies and now is in a foster home with several small dogs and a couple around his size of both sexes. Sammie weighs 41 pounds now. It is a healthy weight for him, but to be lean and trim, he could lose 3-4 pounds. He loves people food and begs very politely with pleading eyes, but no barking or pawing. We do not know how he would react with cats, but he doesn’t seem to have a high prey drive, so our guess is that it would work out.
Border collies do come in colors, so the red merle coat is no surprise. But, some of his mannerisms lead us to believe that he is mixed with Australian Shepherd. Both breeds have good longevity and rank high on general good health studies. Living to 16 and 18 years is common.
Pasadena Humane Society nursed him back to health with a complete sign-off from the vet. He was lost on the streets and near death’s door before they rescued him with dehydration. Pasadena and many neighboring cities are fortunate to have them providing animal control services. Their vet estimated his age as 10 years, but he has such a playful attitude and no signs of joint tension or reduced strength, so it’s hard to believe. He is scheduled for teeth cleaning by our vet and a possible tooth extraction. All medical records will be made available to adopter.
