Here's what the humans have to say about me:
BO
4-5 year old neutered male
We took in Bo not knowing what to expect of or how to care for a blind dog. Bo is a 4-5 year old male golden that is more a cinnamon bear. Come to find out, no special attention or care is needed except to getting used to the fact that he will bump into things, but he has yet to hurt himself or anything, no worries. Bo is only limited in that he does not like to climb stairs very far, and frankly we are still worried about him coming down that many stairs if he did go all the way up, in every other way he is a healthy active golden retriever.
Bo’s favorite thing is to go for walks or just get outside as there are less things to bump into and he can speed up a bit with the freedom of open spaces. He does react to dogs that “surprise or startle” him but is getting better at reducing the level of focus he uses to locate the unexpected interloper (a few snacks are very handy on walks). Bo is one of the quickest learners we have ever had as a foster but don’t expect any puppy-ness or normal dog playfulness from Bo as he doesn’t take an interest in tennis balls or other toys.
He does do the “golden” shadow to perfection and will find you wherever you go to bring a special joy to your heart. He is house-broken and can be left alone without any concerns. Bo would be best in a single dog home and has gotten used to the cat, but would not think he would like small children who want to play with the dog (in the normal sense of dog play). If you’re looking for a gentlemen that is gentle on a leash and who will always be there, Bo may be the golden for you.
