Here's what the humans have to say about me:
**Myrtle currently lives in a loving foster home in Houston, Texas and is available for out-of-state adoption through Reggie’s Friends.**
Meet our sweet friend, Myrtle. She is a 2 year old, 15 pound Chihuahua and Terrier mix. She has a super slender body style and is very fit and active for her size. She might fill out and add a pound or two, but otherwise she is full grown.
Miss Myrtle has a very sad story prior to rescue. She had an owner that clearly didn’t consider her an important member of the family. When they up and moved out of their home, they left Myrtle and her 3 newborn puppies and all of the garbage from their home in a dumpster. It doesn’t get any more heartless than that. Fortunately nearby neighbors realized the situation very quickly and made some fast calls. Myrtle’s rescuer arrived and saved all of them. Sadly, the puppies were too sick and all passed away at 5 weeks old. Myrtle was devastated and took comfort in her stuffed animals, carrying them around and cuddling them in her bed. Some people don’t feel that dogs have emotions, but they just needed to visit Myrtle to know that they do.
Well, time healed Miss Myrtle’s emotional wounds and a good, loving foster made life fun and exciting for her. She has turned into an amazing little dog and her past hasn’t affected her future. She’s been affectionately and jokingly named Myrtle the Turtle, but it could be more inaccurate. This girl is the furthest from slow moving that you can imagine. She is a very fast runner, she can jump really high and she would be a perfect candidate for agility and flyball courses. Her speed and athleticism are impressive!
Myrtle loves people! In fact, she is great with women and girls almost immediately. She is perfectly content with men as well, yet she won't come running to them willingly until she gets to know them very well. This may be the result of her living situation prior to being rescued from the dumpster.
Other dogs are very welcome in Myrtle’s life. She is probably smaller and faster than most, but she lets them try to keep up with her. She’s sweet and playful always. She also lives with two cats in her foster home and loves them, so she would be perfect in a family with cats, dogs and kids. She needs an active, fun-loving family that will include her in all of their adventures.
Myrtle is very content to sleep on the bed or in your lap. She’s crate trained, house broke and leash trained too. She’s the perfect pup all rolled up into one tiny, fast package. You’ll get to know when she gets that glint in her eyes, she wants to run and play with you. So much fun to be had with Miss Myrtle!
She is currently living in Houston, Texas where she and her family were rescued, but she is available for out-of-state adoption. Her adoption fee is $450, which covers the cost of her airline ticket, travel crate and bed. Those items are hers to keep upon arrival and to use in her new house. She is spayed, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative and micrcochipped. She’s ready to start her new life with an amazing family. If you are part of that family and want this zippy, precious little lady in your family, please email adoptions@reggiesfriends.org today.
