Amanda has been adopted but someone has just contacted us to surrender another young, small female black lab mix. Please keep checking our site for info on her. It may be a few days before we can evaluate her for intake into our foster program.
Amanda was scheduled to be gassed to death, but we were able to get her to safety in the nick of time! We can't imagine the horror a shelter worker must face with the thought of having to put such a sweet dog into a gas chamber!
Amanda is a happy girl who sits in front of you when she wants attention and sleeps quietly through the night in her crate. She weighs 33 lbs and, except for her small size, looks like a purebred black labrador retriever. She shares her food and toys nicely with humans and other dogs and just wants to be loved. She loves hugs! She also enjoys playing with other dogs. She has a nice confidence level and we haven't noted any aggressive reactions to situations in foster care; however, as she has settled in/destressed from being in the shelter, we've noticed that she has some mouthing tendencies, mostly when she thinks you have food in your hand, so she will need training with this issue. This sweet girl is recommended for a family with children aged 6 and up who have a good confidence level around dogs and know how to treat them nicely.
As with most dogs in rescue, Amanda does need some additional obedience training. Sit seems to be the only command she knows. But she's very eager to please and will probably learn quickly with some positive-motiation treat-based training. Please submit an application if you'd like to meet her.
