Here's what the humans have to say about me:
**Alex is currently in a wonderful foster home in Houston, Texas and is available for out-of-state adoption.**
Meet Alex, our little 6 month old Labrador mix. As with many of our rescues, Alex’s breed is a bit of a mystery because he looks like a Lab, but has a different face and is only 24 pounds right now. We expect that he will max out at 35 or 40, which is a perfect size with his great energy. He is so adaptable and up for any activity you want to include him on. His soft black and white coat and his tail that never stops wagging are just fantastic!
Happy-go-lucky is the best way to describe this boy. He loves everybody and everything in his new life after his rescue from a Houston city shelter. He was turned in as a stray, but living on the streets didn’t affect this awesome guy’s personality. He will be over the moon when he meets his forever family too. He gets along great with his foster brother and they play amazingly well together out in the backyard. He would love to have an equally playful dog sibling in his new family.
He loves to run and would make for a great exercise partner as well. He is new to our program, so we are working on leash skills, but he seems to be taking to it pretty well. He does pull some when he’s excited, but he’s still just a young boy and that can be easily taught with repetition.
Alex’s foster home has a chicken enclosure and he hasn’t had a bit of interest in even sniffing them, so we feel that he is going to be neutral to all around him. He hasn’t met any cats in his new foster home yet. He would probably want them to play with him too. He is a bit protective of his food around other dogs still because as a stray, food is something they cherish. Once he realizes that he will always have his meals, we think he will likely lose that tendency. Until then, he simply eats inside of his kennel or away from other pups.
When Alex’s foster mom sits outside with him and the other dogs are playing chase with him, he tends to consider her home base and wedges himself between her and the bench. It’s hysterical to watch him when he plays with the others. Alex’s ideal family is active, adventurous, silly, loves to spend time outside and also cuddling and giving affection. He would do well with children and would love another fun-loving pup in his daily life.
Alex is crate trained, although he is a young man that would rather be goofing off than sitting in his kennel, so he occasionally rolls over on his back for a belly rub to prolong his out time. He is 90% potty trained now and does pretty well on his leash. All of these skills will improve considerably with one-on-one attention from his new family, a little patience and age too. Remember, he’s still a baby!
Alex is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated and ready to say goodbye to his foster mom and hello to his forever people. He is currently living in a foster home in Houston, Texas and is available for out-of-state adoption. His adoption fee is $450, which helps pay for the cost of his airline flight, new travel kennel and bed. Both of these items are his to keep and use in his new home. Alex wants to meet you, so please email us at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org with any questions or for an adoption application.
