Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet MOE, available for adoption through Fur the Love of PAWS!
Moe here is an approximately 10 years young, super sweet Senior who found himself as a neutered and declawed stray cat in a city shelter and was not feeling good at all!! This breaks our hearts and his, for many reasons. 1. He isn't a stray. He had a family who neutered and declawed him at some point in his life. 2. He's a Senior needing a home smack dab in the middle of Kitten Season. 3. He wasn't feeling well, which led to the diagnosis of Diabetes. Now, don't rule him out just yet.... there's a home out there for Moe and we need to find it. And that's where you, the reader, the supporter, the animal lover - comes in.
Moe has a few misfortunes, as some rescues do... at no fault of their own. We're here to help Moe's life turn around. Moe has been at our vet for a week and is doing awesome! We are now on a search for his forever and ever home and we're in hopes we can find it within the week. Moe will do much better getting back into a home environment where he can feel safe and happy again. So, on to the great things about Amazing Moe.
Moe LOVES people. Oh my goodness. He is super affectionate and super sweet. He likes to be held and likes to follow you around, and then just plop down and watch you. :)
He has been fully vaccinated, dewormed, is FIV/FeLV negative and on flea/tick/heartworm prevention. He's had a urinalysis and complete bloodowork and other than the diabetes - he's in good health. Since he wasn't feeling well and he was a stray, his coat has suffered from lack of care. I've brushed him and bathed him with waterless shampoo, but it still needs some help. :)
We will offer a full groom on Moe after he gets settled into his new home. Moe seems to be fine with dogs and cats. He is litter trained. He's an all around great cat who is looking for a family. He has a face that will melt your heart, with the most engaging eyes. He likes to lounge around and scope things out. I can picture Moe sitting in front of a window on a nice comfy blanket soaking up the sun rays for hours and hours..... <3
This is what Moe needs in a family. Someone who is able to give him 1 easy injection of insulin, twice a day. It's so simple. The insulin is stored in the refrigerator. You would feed Moe his breakfast, oh around 7:30 or 8:00am and then you would give him an injection just right in the skin. It's really scary sounding, I know - but it's not at all. Then, you would do the same thing for supper - feed and administer a shot about 12 hours later. Moe will need to be on a special food called W/D. We will be supplying the food, and insulin to get him started. Moe will need to come to the vet and get a glucose check very soon and if his levels are great - life is good and you would continue doing what you're doing. If the levels are off, we simply adjust the insulin and recheck him in 10 days. This can all sound very overwhelming and intimidating, but it isn't. We will be helping an adopter through out the process until they are confident in it.... but, really, you will have it down in no time at all and the best part of all - MOE WOULD HAVE A FAMILY and a HAPPY HOME!
It would be great to find a home familiar with a diabetic pet. If you have had a diabetic pet but are not looking to adopt, please enter some encouraging words in the comments. Diabetic pets live a normal life, they just cannot regulate the sugars their body takes in normally, so they need a little help. Again, we will help you all along the way, so there's nothing to fear. :)
Some really encouraging news is that some cats even drop down to one shot a day and can even go into remission, eliminating the need for injections completely! This is always a possibility!
Moe is a wonderful boy who deserves to be a senior in a security. We know it's hard to pass up that bouncing baby kitten, and it's hard to take on a special needs pet, but we encourage you to consider him. I will personally guarantee the love that Moe returns will change your life.
