Hello, my name is HoneyBear and I am a six-week-old (as of June 2015) Border Collie mix female and I will be ready to go to my forever home on June 20, 2015. Our mom was rescued while very pregnant and my brothers and sisters were born in our foster home.
I am the biggest and most gregarious pup in my litter and my foster mom’s favourite. I am playful, curious, and always like to be the center of attention which is easy because I have a sweet personality (I’m not bragging that is really what my foster mom says). My brown and white fur is long and very soft, with black highlights. My black mask sits atop my white muzzle which is speckled with black. My legs and chest are white and my little ears are black. I’m a lover, very smart, and always ready to go on an adventure. I love playing with the other puppies in the rescue and would enjoy having a playmate in my new home. I’ve never met a cat but I’m sure I would like them.
I like people - young and old – and want to please my humans any way I can. My all-time favourite things in the world are snuggling, getting petted and having my belly rubbed. I’m not housebroken but I am just a baby, after all. The best is that I’m not a barker and don’t chew like my siblings do. I pay attention to my humans, and with a firm, gentle human parent I could learn all the neat things that you want in a dog – housebreaking, walking on a leash, and snuggling real close. I know I would enjoy an active, loving family whether it’s a single person or a family, as long as I am a full part of the family, and that they take me on long walks, spoil me, give me my own little bed next to them, and make me part of their lives forever.
I just got my first round of puppy shots and got checked out for all sorts of things; the vet says I am in great shape, and that she’ll keep looking after me until I’m adopted. She added that I’m healthy, sturdy, and beautifully proportioned. I’m a baby and not yet spayed, and if you adopt me, you must commit to having me spayed when I turn six months old. The lady, who runs the rescue which took Mama in, asks for a bigger fee to make sure that this happens. All that to say that my adoption fee is $200, with $50 returned to you once you show proof that I can’t make babies that might be dumped like someone abandoned Mama. Anyone wanting to adopt a dog from the RARFS is required to fill out an adoption application, provide references, sign an adoption contract, agree to a home visit, and finally to pay an adoption fee. Once the application is received, references checked, and a home visit completed, and everything is satisfactory, families can take their new family member home. Families who rent must provide a letter from their landlord stating that they are allowed to have a dog, and listing any size or breed restriction.
We are located in Cookeville, Tennessee. We prefer that families come and pick up their new family member, but a licensed pet transport is available. Should we need to transport dogs to their new homes, the adopter will need to arrange and pay $150 per dog directly to the transport company.
Should a dog adopted from RARFS need to be rehomed, we ask that the dog be returned to us, or that we approve the new home. We have a no questions asked return policy, but adoption and transport fees will not be reimbursed.
As a non-profit organization, RARFS relies on your adoption fees to cover costs. We receive no other outside funding. Fees help us care for the animals we shelter and enable us to offer them to you for adoption in a healthy and happy state. Fees include costs for spaying/neutering, intake vaccines, deworming, monthly heartworm and flea/tick prevention, and any other medical expenses. Without these fees we could not continue to rescue animals from abandonment and/or a life of pain and suffering. We’ve been asked these questions before, so: NO, we will not waive or reduce adoption fees; YES, you can further pay it forward by making a larger donation than the requested fee.
RARFS rescues dogs, not breeds, and we want you to fall in love with the dog you adopt into your family so, as potential adopters, please be aware that the information we provide is to the best of our knowledge. When it comes to breed or age information on a given dog, we must often guess, rely on our knowledge, or go by what we are told by rescuers, vets, and breed experts. If you are looking for a purebred dog, please refer to one of the many excellent breed specific rescue organizations on this website.
