Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Axel is a very active and inquisitive puppy – he wants to investigate everything and learn all about the world around him. He is also very, very sweet and people-focused – extremely friendly and loving when meeting new friends.
Axel found his voice at a very young age, and has a cute “yodel” he uses when he wants attention from his human caregivers. He is a very cute and charming puppy, and is quite an instinctive poser for the camera, as you can see!
Update: Over the last month, we noticed that Axel has developed a limp on his right front leg, especially after exertion. We have had him evaluated by three veterinarians, including two orthopedic specialists who met Axel in person and reviewed radiographs. Due to an injury Axel likely suffered in utero, or as a very young puppy, his elbow joint appears to have healed poorly and out of position. Because the elbow and limb are not causing him much pain, or interfering with his daily life at this time, both surgeons have recommended medical management of his symptoms and potential future arthritis in the joint. While this is not the news we were hoping for, Axel’s sweet and cuddly personality more than makes up for it!
The perfect home for Axel will be a family who can give him lots of attention, and work with him as he grows up. He may benefit from water exercises later in life, and mild exercise will help keep symptoms at bay. He is a snuggle buddy, and can’t wait to be your constant companion. Axel currently lives with other dogs in his foster home and loves having older “siblings” to play with.
Axel has been well socialized with many other humans, children and dogs.
The Basics
Axel has had his first set of puppy shots and has been dewormed. He is working hard on becoming completely housebroken! He is starting on crate training with his new foster family – until he was about 7 & 1/2; weeks old he spent his time with his mama and littermates learning from them. Based on scientific research, NWGSR does not recommend neutering before 6 months of age.
Adoption fee: $400, plus $125 deposit refundable to adopter upon proof that Axel has been neutered after 6 months of age
There is a high level of interest in this smart, beautiful baby boy! If you are interested in having Axel as a member of your family, please fill out an adoption application today!

Due to the nature of this breed, for safety reasons NWGSR does not adopt to homes with children under 8 years of age, or with dogs weighing less than 20 pounds. We also require a fully-fenced yard, with fencing a minimum of 5' tall. More information on these policies is available on our website. The rescue requires previous German Shepherd ownership experience for any of our dogs under the age of 2.
