Jade and Jasper are being surrendered to TOTT because they're owners are no longer able to provide them with the attention they both need...Caring for two small children, a household to maintain and beginning a graduate program, the owner is no longer able to properly care for these dogs...
Jade (6 yr old female, white w/blue eyes), has a strong personality. She loves people and other dogs, but is also very independant. She enjoys sleeping alone, in a room seperate. She's definitely the more dominant dog in the household and sets all the ground rules for play and behavior. She's very tolerant of small children (she lives with a 2 and 3 year old) and will allow them to play with her and brush her. When she's had enough, she will simply get up and move away. Sometimes she will vocalize her desire to be alone with a little, non-threatening growl. She also resides with a cat and most times couldn't be bothered with it. On occasion, they will play together, but it is dictated by the cat.
Jade loves walks outside, but has very little interest in the outdoors beyond that. She walks very nicely on her leash, when reminded she is not to pull. She has been through formal training and at times will display her talents...She indicates her need to go out by scratching at the door and indicates her desire to go out for a walk by sitting nicely at the door. With enough attention, time and energy spent, her skills would really shine! Food is a great motivator for her...but she loves it so much she's been known to counter-surf at times! Jade doesn't exhibit much food or toy aggression with other dogs or her humans...there are a few issues with her brother over table food dropped by the children, but nothing serious and other than that, she's content eating out of her own bowl and letting her brother enjoy his own food and treats.
According to her owner, Jade is very well behaved...when she gets visitors to her home, she gets overly excited and friendly and will jump up for hugs, but that subsides once the guests have been there for a bit. She is also an 'escape artist'...if given the opportunity. The kids have a tendency to open outside doors, thus letting the dogs escape. The owner also stated that this is more the fault of the humans and although a concern, if closely monitored would not be an issue. She has challenged the owners' electric fence, but on very rare occasion and only if a motivator is on the other side.
Jade's owners would love to find her a new family that can bring out her best qualities and give her a bunch of love and attention forever!
*Jade comes to TOTT from Pennsylvania, through the referral of her owner. TOTTSHR works with families to help find new homes for their dogs when the families have extenuating circumstances, such as an illness, that prevent them from being able to care for their canine friends. If not enough foster space is currently available to bring a dog into rescue, and if the family is willing to continue caring for the dog until he or she can be placed in a new home, we post the dog on this page to help the family find their friend a new home.
