My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Isabel is currently in a foster home in Houston, Texas and is available for out of state adoption.**

Hi, everyone! I’m Isabel! I am a 45 pound Staffordshire terrier / Hound mix and I am just over a year old. My rescue story is one that I hope you won’t let define me, but it’s important to share so that my new family is fully prepared to help me along the rest of my rescue journey. My former life was not so great. I was found living in a closet when the police came to my house on a domestic violence call. Apparently, my breed was not allowed at the apartment where we lived, so my owners had me living in the closet so I wouldn’t be seen. I was severely underweight, less than half of my current size, and very afraid. I hadn’t been outside in over two months and everything was big and loud. I was taken to the shelter where I was eventually released to my rescuers who promised those days were far behind me. They were told I would probably never be adoptable because I was very frightened at the shelter. But just three days after being with my foster family, I decided life was AWESOME!

I am still a little shy around new people, but do very well when I am asked to sit and new friends approach with love and treats. I love treats! I have been taking outings with my foster family to meet new people and explore new places. Some of these are still a little scary and I may give off a little bark. But when my fosters have me sit and tell me everything is okay, I relax quickly.
I love exploring new things and love watching TV on the couch with my foster dad. I LOVE riding in the car, but need to be in a kennel because I think I should ride in everyone’s lap! I am very active, I didn’t get to spend much time being a puppy, so now, I want to do everything. I would make an excellent running or hiking buddy and would do really well in a training class. I am excellent at sit, love walking on my leash, and am very treat motivated.

I am learning to be calm around other dogs. I am in no way aggressive, I just never got the chance to play with other dogs before, so I get a little too excited around them and sometimes they don’t like that. I take correction politely and have never been growly or mean to other dogs. I want very much to make friends, I just need to be taught how. My foster mom thinks that I am a bit too high energy to be around very small dogs and I have a bit too much interest in the kitties for her to consider me safe with cats.

I’m quickly getting used to all the new things in my life, so my foster mom thinks that I will get over the nervousness that I have when I first meet new people. I just can’t believe that all the fun and amazing new things that have happened in my life. I just need a little extra TLC for a while until I know that I am going to have a great life forever. My ideal family will be one who is patient with me and is excited to help me learn and understand all of the amazing things life has to offer. I am doing very well on my kennel and house training and am looking forward to being a family dog!

I am spayed, current on my vaccinations and microchipped. I am available for out of state adoption and my fee is $350, which includes my airline ticket, my travel crate and new comfy bed. If you are interested in adopting me, please email my new friends at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org.
