Here's what the humans have to say about me:
ADOPTION PENDING
Hi! My name is Latte! I am a 10 pound Chihuahua and I hail from the great state of New Mexico. The friendly people at Empty Shelter Project were nice enough to fly out, grab me and 40 of my closest friends, and give us an all expense paid trip back to Virginia! It’s a good thing too because I heard that we did not have much time left out west!
I am currently fostered in Manassas with another Empty Shelter rescue, Mary. She has been by my side ever since we got here and I am very thankful for that. I am only 9 months old so Mary has been looking out for me and showing me the ropes.
My foster parents also have 3 other dogs in their pack and we all get along great. They do not have any cats but when I see a cat out on our walks I don’t give it a second look. There are no children in my foster home so I am not sure how I would get along with them. I do not mind them at the adoption events and I have never shown any aggression to any other dogs or kids or even adults. If I get startled I would rather shy away rather than try to fight.
I am still adjusting to my new surroundings so I am not sure about most things in my new world. I usually let Mary take the lead and if she thinks it is ok, then I know that I can follow along. I do not necessarily need Mary to lead the way but I would like a house with an older, wiser dog to take the lead.
I am kind of shy and tend to not be sure about anything new (EVERYTHING is pretty new right now). But I walk on my leash with my new pack really well once they show me the way. I sometime need a little coaxing to get me out the door (or even sometimes just out of my crate). But once I am out and walking I am happy and prance, dance, and run around. I tend to even forget what I was scared of in the first place.
We all eat at the same time in the same area but we get our own individual dishes. If I finish first I tend to go visit the others in my pack to see what kind of good stuff they got. Sometimes I get a warning from them though and so I back off and give them their space.
When it is time for bed, most nights Mary and I share a crate and we get along just fine. We cuddle up in the crate and either sleep or quietly watch the world go by. I love being in my crate; it is the one safe place I know I can go to when I need my ME time.
I understand the housebroken concept and most days I keep my business outside. Sometimes though (I guess I have a small bladder) I can’t hold it so I have to find a spot on the tile floor. It does not happen very often though because my fosters are really good about letting us out and taking us on walks. The good news is that I have not had 1 accident (NOT 1!) in my crate.
Northern VA applications only.
