Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi! My name is Joey and I was saved from being euthanized at the Orange County shelter for being too scared in my kennel.
I'm just a puppy but have already had a very sad past where my person was not nice to me and, because of that, I'm pretty scared of new things and new people. My foster mommy tells me it breaks her heart that someone could treat a sweet puppy so badly but I am a happy boy now that I'm safe with her and my foster dad (and my 4 legged brothers and sisters!)! My foster family is working with me daily and I am learning how to be a very brave little boy! Each time I overcome something "scary", I feel just a bit more confident and ready to tackle the next thing! Still, I will need a very patient, understanding adopter who will give me time to adjust and learn to trust and also continue to teach me that the world is not such a scary place. Once I learn to trust you, you will not meet a sweeter, more loving, happy little boy! I absolutely love to be with my people and will always follow my foster parents from room to room when they do things around the house. But it takes time for me to get there so I will need someone who has a "stick to it" and is willing to go through some bumps in the road during the first month or so that I'm with them. I can PROMISE you that I will come around with time and patience...it is just hard for me to trust in the beginning. Oh, and I'm told I give the very best kisses :)
I absolutely LOVE other dogs and currently live with both boys and girls and get along with them great. The thing is, my trusted doggie friends give me the confidence I need to conquer the big, scary world out there so I would greatly benefit from going to a home with another dog! I like to run around and wrestle with my doggie friends so while I like little dogs, I am better matched up with someone my own size or bigger who can handle my rough and tumble play! I would be best matched up with a balanced dog with a medium energy level that can show me the ropes in my new home and teach me that life is not so scary.
I'm a tiny little guy...I weigh about 45 lbs but I look even smaller than that! I'm easy to handle and very eager to please! I love treats and I am doing well learning my basic commands. At first I was very scared of that big thing they call a "crate" but now my foster mommy just says the words "in your crate" and I run right in! My foster mommy says I'm such a quick learner and great listener too!
Even though I'm still a puppy, I have a great medium energy level. When it is time to relax and watch tv, I will just lay at your feet or on my favorite dog bed and relax with you. But if it's time to play in the yard, I'm ready to go! I'm a quiet boy but I will definitely alert you if somebody is near the house or at the door. My foster mommy tells me I have a big bark for such a little guy!
I am such a special guy and I am really looking for that perfect home that will help me become the confident boy I deserve to be! If you would like to learn more about me or meet me, please contact my friends at 4Life Animal Rescue and they will put you in touch with my foster mommy who can tell you all about me!
