My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Lewis is currently being fostered in Houston, Texas and is available for out of state adoption.**

This adorable and compact guy’s name is Lewis. He is our “Entertainer of the Year” because he sings. It’s actually more of a cute yodel, but it is hilarious and unlike any pup we’ve ever had in our program. He is just about 2 years old and is only 36 pounds of fun. He was found as a stray pup and was taken to the city shelter in June 2013 and was lucky to be adopted really quickly. Well, apparently the situation wasn’t so lucky and less than ideal for him after all. He was returned by that family just a year later. We were sad to hear that it didn’t work out, but he was in terrible condition when he came back to the shelter. They must have required him to be a strictly outdoor dog and that is very hard on a pup in Houston, Texas because of the extremely hot temperatures and the pests, like fleas, mosquitos and ticks. He came back missing most of his fur from all of those reasons.

We made a promise to him that day that he’d be treated like a king for the rest of his life and we are determined to find him a family that will treat him as family. He is currently eating a grain-free diet and gets routine baths and he has already reverted back to gorgeous! His shiny black and white coat does not even indicate that he had any issues while he was away. His personality clearly hasn’t suffered at all during that experience because he is still an overwhelmingly happy boy. He loves all people and currently lives in a home with 7 other dogs and 3 teenage boys, so he is quite the social butterfly.

His yodel is not his only endearing characteristic. He also adores children and one of his daily habits is to wait for the school bus to drop the kids off so he can visit with them. He is very alert and makes dog ownership fun and easy. He is a very active little guy and needs exercise either at the dog park or on the trails. He would be a fantastic running partner and he would probably beat you to the front door with his leash every time you mention going out. He’s a great motivator for a goal setter in the athletic arena. He loves to ride in the car and he’s not picky on which seat he gets as long as he’s in on the activity.

Lewis’ mild mannered and friendly personality makes him an appealing candidate for a family that wants a new furry companion. He is just an easy-going, easy to love, easy on the eyes kind of pooch. He is completely house trained, leash trained and crate trained, although he can be fully trusted in the house without supervision and doesn’t require crating much at all anymore. He is neutered, microchipped and fully vaccinated.

His ideal family will allow him to be just that…part of the family, inside on a comfy dog bed (or in your bed if you so allow it). He would love dog and human siblings and would fit into any situation quite well as long as he is treated affectionately and exercised properly. Lewis seems to think that cats are entertaining and wants to play chase with them, so we wouldn’t recommend that he move into a family that has a cat.

Lewis currently lives in Houston, Texas and is available for out of state adoption. His adoption fee is $450, which includes his airline ticket, a brand new travel crate and bed and his travel documentation. He would fly directly from Houston to Vancouver (YVR) and there is an additional fee due to Customs upon his arrival. He’s ready to hop on that flight today, so if you need a little serenading in your day, Lewis is the guy for you. Please email us at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org for more information or an adoption application.
