Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Nizhoni came to us as a stray mom from the reservation with her 4 pups. She has weaned her pups and now it's her turn to find a forever home. She is about 4 years old, is good with male dogs (we don't know about female dogs yet) and showed mild interest in the shelter cat, but was easily distracted by yummy treats. She was an excellent mom to her pups and is very social with humans. The only reason we recommend no very young kids in the home is because she was not comfortable having her paws grabbed, nor her tail. Her response was very appropriate in letting us know she wanted us to stop, but a child may not stop when she asks. She is curious, is thoroughly a natural at the nose work classes she started today, and knows how to sit on cue. She has a very gentle mouth and did not guard her food bowl during testing. She is very affectionate and has a very nice energy level. Away from the kennels, she has very good leash manners.
Pupdate - Nizhoni will thrive In a less chaotic home environment. The noise, motion, and overstimulating shelter environment can ramp her up and she sometimes playfully nips too hard on our hands. She got some special one on one time just hanging with the trainer and she just loved the massage and petting. She actually thinks she should be a lap dog, and wiggled onto the trainers lap for some extra close snuggle time. She has excellent indoor manners, as well. One might think she doesn't like other dogs, because she does the very common "fence frustration" behavior, where she barks and lunges at dogs on the other side of the fence as they walk by, but it is only a display. She is great and playful with them when they come in the yard... Nizhoni seems to be more and more worked up by the shelter cats. We strongly recommend a no cat home.
