Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Duchess is an eight year old yorkie female weighing 6 1/2 pounds. She is being fostered in Ashland City, TN.
Updated Bio: 6/29/15
Hello everyone! Duchess here. A bit about me…… I was previously adopted but sadly I ended up coming back when I had some behavioral issues. I tried my best to be good…..I REALLY DID……but I have some real fear issues that make it hard for me to trust and then I sometimes over-react by snapping at people. My previous owners had me in a shock collar……and that is a lot for a 6 lb. little girl like me to handle. I’ve heard about a human condition called PTSD…..and I wonder to myself….”Can a pup like me have this?” As a result of all of this I don’t really know how to trust that a new home and people will love me unconditionally and not hurt me. This is pretty sad because I SO WANT TO BE LOVED and to find that special kind of home and person. I can be unpredictable; I can snap at you one minute and beg you to hold me the next…...but that being said I am doing better back in my foster home. My foster family is very good to me and I feel comfortable here most of the time. So this is a “safe place” for me to work on becoming a more loving and trusting girl. The good people at UYR wanted to make sure that there was no underlying physiological reason for my behavior so when I came back they took me to the Dogtor and once again I was fully examined and had just about every type of blood test there is…..all were normal except that my thyroid level is a tiny bit low. Because of this, I am now taking thyroid medication twice a day. The nice Dogtor also said he felt like it might help me with my training if I had a little bit of medicine to help me not be so afraid. So I just started taking a very small dose of medicine for that. I haven’t been taking it long enough to see how it will work yet and I probably won’t have to take it forever…..just long enough to help me learn that the world is really an OK place with a lot of nice humans in it who don’t want to shock or hurt me. I take my medicine like a good girl too….My foster mom makes it a fun treat so I can't wait till my next dose! I have been through so many changes recently…..moving from home to home and changing people. All of this has been stressful for me and I need some time to feel confident and comfortable again. Foster mom says I need to stay in foster care for a while longer until I feel secure enough to try a new family. Please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I work on getting over my anxiety. I really am a sweet girl inside who just needs an understanding and patient person or family to love me forever and who is okay with letting me love you back at my own pace. It is a love worth waiting for, I promise! Duchess
Update 6/14/15: Duchess was adopted in April, but things didn't quite work out with her new owner. The owner felt it would be best for Duchess to come back into UYR to find another home that would be a better fit for her.
Duchess adores toys. She loves to play fetch and will do so for as long as your willing to play. Balls are her favorite but she also likes squeaky toys. She is crate trained and house broken. She does not use wee wee pads. Duchess rides well in a car and walks great on a leash.
Duchess will be going back to the dogtor this week for a checkup just to make sure all is well. Stay tuned for more information as she settles into her foster home.
Duchess is a 7 year old, 6 lb. Yorkie female being fostered in Ashland City TN.
Duchess came from a home where she was loved and well cared for. The only problem is that Duchess lived in an apartment and when her human left to go to work it made Duchess very unhappy so she barked. She barked a lot apparently because soon the neighbors began to complain to management about her barking. The owner was faced with a difficulty choice and decided to ask United Yorkie Rescue to help rehome Duchess.
Duchess is house trained, crate trained, leash trained and in good health. She does have a bit of a sensitive stomach so she does eat special food formulated to be gentle on her tummy. She loves to get attention from her human. She also loves to play with her ball, go for rides in the car and go for walks.
Duchess JUST arrived in her foster home today so stayed tuned as her foster mom get's to know her better!
