Meet Abel.. I am a playful ~8 month old, 45 pound puppy! I appear to have some golden retriever in me but I'm just a good ole American mixed breed. I was originally adopted from a shelter as a small puppy but was neglected and brought back with a bad case of demodectic mange and skin infections. After 6 medications and 4 months of treatment, I am a healthy, happy pup! The vet said my mange is cleared but a stressful situation could potentially suppress my immune system and it could come back. I need someone who understands what to look for if it starts to come back so I never get that bad again. Because I was neglected early on, I tend to eat my food really fast and need to be fed in a slow feeder bowl so I don’t eat too quickly. I am potty trained and kennel trained. I do pretty well on a leash but can pull a bit when I see something interesting. I can sit and shake (with treats). I am cautious when meeting new people and pets. Meeting a lot of new people at once or being in a new place can sometimes overwhelm me, so I bark. I tend to bark/growl when I’m scared and I like to be reassured I’m okay. I love playing and wrestling with my foster sister. I love running, playing tug-of-war, and playing fetch. I think I am a lot smaller than I really am so I tend to play a little rough. I tend to play better with females than males and I have never been around cats. I love attention and being loved on! I am protective and loyal. I follow my foster parents around everywhere they go. I absolutely love car rides!
