Here's what the humans have to say about me:
**Heinrich is currently living in Houston, Texas and is available for out of state of adoption. His adoption fee is $450 to help cover the cost of his airline flight, travel crate and bed. The crate and bed are his to keep upon his arrival with his new family. Heinrich is available to meet his potential family via video chat with an approved adoption application. He will remain in Houston until he is adopted. Please note that there are additional fees required by Customs when the dog arrives at YVR. **
This is our incredible boy, Heinrich. If his sweet kissable face hasn’t already taken your breath away, please let us tell you all about his personality.
Heinrich may have the tough guy look, but he was found by our Program Director’s husband while he was getting attacked by 2 larger, tougher stray dogs. He was very much at the losing end of this unwanted battle when a ray of sunlight came into his life. His rescuer jumped into the middle of this situation and pulled Heinrich away and without a second thought…Heinrich was in his passenger seat and off to a safe and happier life. He was taken to the vet, cleaned up and recovered nicely.
We feel that Heinrich was always a loving pup, but knowing that his life was saved by a person, he is a real people lover now. He is a 2 year old, Blue Staffordshire Terrier weighing in at a very solid 65 pounds. He is a beefy boy with a silver coat that will catch your eye from a distance. He gets compliments on his appearance everywhere he goes. His soulful eyes set deep in his blocky head are full of adoration for all of those around him.
Upon his rescue, he not only had significant wounds from the attack, it was made clear that he had been a stray for a good while too by a couple of medical conditions that the vet diagnosed, including
Demodectic Mange and Heartworms. Both of these issues are easily preventable and clearly the result of lack of care and the life of a stray. The mange is a non-contagious skin condition that caused hair loss. Heinrich has been treated for this and his coat is filling in nicely now. Heartworms are a common condition in the South because they are caused by being bitten by an infected mosquito, which we have year round in Houston. He currently has the least severe case and is going through treatment for this as well. His treatment doesn’t alter his physical activities and he is leading a normal life, just takes medication for it twice monthly. He will complete his treatment within 6 months, but neither of these issues will get in his way of finding his new family. His new people can easily give him his medications and those are provided as part of his adoption.
Heinrich is a spirited, fun-loving boy who adores his humans, adults and children alike, and really wants to spend quality time with them. His age and zest can be compared to that of a teenager, silly, fun, but also needs boundaries and direction given by a good owner. As with teenagers and young pups, he gets excitable in new situations and sometimes tries to get away with little things that he knows he shouldn’t. He just didn’t have the guidance as a puppy to learn those things, but has come so far since his rescue. Most of his shenanigans are just silly, young man moves and not destructive in the least. This too is where a strong willed owner comes into the picture.
He absolutely loves to trot through the yard with a good rope toy in his mouth and flaunt his beauty and irresistible personality. As with all people, he’s never encountered a toy that he didn’t adore. He also really loves enjoys walking on leash. He’s pretty good at it too! He interacts very well with other dogs and enjoys their company too. He plays hard and fast, so larger dogs are probably the best playmates for our big boy. He doesn’t understand that cats do not want to play with him, so a home without cats is a must.
Despite his less than desirable beginning in life, he has learned so much in our care. He is already crate trained, housebroken, leash trained and knows all of his basic commands; sit, stay, outside, crate and settle down. This guy is so loyal and once you get to know him and he gives you that first sweet puppy kiss, you’ll know that he’s the companion that will never leave your side. He would fit well into a new family with little to no transitional issues. He needs an owner that will keep his puppy shenanigans to a minimum, continue his medications until he is free and clear of the heartworms and will show him more affection than he’s ever known in his entire life. This guy will be the center of someone’s world in a matter of days.
Hienrich is neutered, current on all of his vaccines and microchipped. He is available for adoption and ready to pack up and start giving puppy kisses to his new pack. His adoption fee is $450 to help cover the cost of his airline flight, travel kennel and bed.
