My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**Mia currently lives in Houston, Texas and is available for out of state adoption. She is available to meet via video call with an approved adoption application. Her adoption fee is $450, which includes her airline flight, new travel crate and bed, which are hers to keep upon arrival. She will remain in Houston until she is adopted.**

This irresistible, squishy face belongs to our lovely lady, Mia. She was recently rescued by a very compassionate person that was made aware of the very poor quality of life she was leading. It was clear that Mia was spending her entire life out in a backyard without suitable accommodations and she was being harshly treated on a daily basis. Fortunately, her owners surrendered her to our friend and she’s now enjoying the freedom and affection that all of our pups deserve.

Mia is estimated to be about 3 years old and this unique combination of English Bulldog and Boxer has created this gorgeous, lean beauty queen in a brindle and white coat. She is about 55 pounds and has the perfect build for going out for some really fun activities and explorations. Her whole body wiggles with joy when the staff and rescue team come to visit her. She is just in love with this new life!

English Bulldogs and Boxers are such affectionate breeds and Mia has a double dose. Her devotion is so apparent when she is with her new friends. She loves to stick her paws on you for hugs and give you some puppy kisses. She is also pretty passionate about snuggling and cuddling in her down time. Mia can be described as an “in your face” or “Velcro” pup, which is new to her, but she seems to like it. She’s gone a very long time without the affection that she constantly craves, so now that she is getting it…she can’t get enough. She needs an owner that likes having a furry shadow and a constant companion. Most lap dogs aren’t quite this size, but it is another description of Mia’s desire to have a close friend.

In rescue situations like Mia’s, we have to consider that her exposure to good people, new places and other pets has been non-existent, so every situation is brand new to her. She is learning how to react appropriately to all of this newness, but will certainly need a new family that is willing to work with her and be patient with her through all of the learning she’s missed out on and slowly expose her to everything this world has to offer her. She is quite excitable and also very anxious in these new scenarios and needs a calm, yet dominant person in her life to ensure that she learns how to handle it and not be afraid. When she gets excited to see a new face or a familiar face, she actually squeals with excitement.

Meeting other dogs is one of the situations that has been a struggle for Mia. She was never introduced to any other dogs and doesn’t know how to interact well at this point. She shows fearful tendencies when she sees dogs coming her way. She is clearly under socialized in that department and for that reason, we feel that she would be best as an only dog during her initial transition. She could probably be a great companion for another dog in the future, after she settles in completely and with a very long and proper introduction. She does currently visit with other dogs in our program, but she is monitored closely and we took days to ensure she could spend time safely with them.

Going on long walks is a true love for Mia. This is also a new habit for her and she loves this one a great deal. She hasn’t had much training on a leash, except for the 3 weeks she’s been in our program, so it is a work in progress. She’s learning not to pull when she sees or smells something interesting, but will clearly need more practice.

Overall, Mia is very active, has a fun- loving personality and bonds very strongly to her human friends. She would do well and really enjoy spending time with older kids that aren’t jumpy and nervous with her.

Mia is spayed, has all of her current vaccinations and is microchipped. She is healthy and now she is looking for her happily ever after. She is available for out of state adoption and her adoption fee is $450 to help cover the costs of her airline flight, travel kennel, bed and required travel documents. If puppy hugs and kisses are what you are missing, Mia is the girl for you. Please email us at adoptions@reggiesfriends.org if you’d like additional information or would like an adoption application.
