My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Banjo is a young, very sweet, floppy hound. He loves to play and run and play some more! He needs a yard to run and play in and is well suited to a home with other dogs and an active family. He would also be a great running partner too. Banjo was abandoned at a local vet clinic so his foster mom stepped up to take him in and he is learning the routine and has settled in very well. He is fine with other dogs of all sizes, cats and people. Because he is so young he can be a little over exuberant when he plays, so we wouldn't recommend him to a home with very small children, but he is equally happy with people of all sizes! He loves his toys and chew sticks and is content to lay on the couch with them. Banjo also loves to be outside, sitting in the yard for quite a while to watch everything that is going on in the neighborhood. He walks just fine on a leash and is crate trained and iworking hard on complete house training—he goes to the door when he needs to go potty. Banjo is a quick learner and very inquisitive, although he still has much to learn as he is only around 9 months to a yr. old and his attention span is typical for that age. Banjo weighs around 45 pounds, has been neutered, is up to date on all vaccines (DhppLv, Bordatella, and Rabies), is Heartworm negative and takes a monthly heartworm and flea/tick preventative. Email for an application today if you think Banjo may be the one for your family.
Please, you MUST visit the following link BEFORE emailing for further information. If you'd like to find out more information about our adoption procedure or to apply for this dog visit http://www.poochesonthemove.net/dixie-pet-underground.html

Or e-mail adoptions@dixiepetunderground.org to request an adoption application, or visit our website at www.dixiepetunderground.org.

Once we receive your complete application, an adoption counselor will call you within 48 hours of receipt of the application. During the adoption interview, the adoption counselor will tell you more about the dog/puppy and our adoption processes, as well as answer any questions you have.

Dogs and puppies are up-to-date on their vaccinations, spayed/neutered, de-wormed, treated for fleas/ticks and heartworm negative before leaving rescue. You will receive complete medical records for your dog and puppy at the time of adoption.

The adoption fee is $450 and covers the cost of all veterinary care and transportation to your area.

Our dogs and puppies are delivered via a USDA-certified van transport and receive an Interstate Health Certificate -- issue by a licensed, accredited veterinarian -- no more than 10 days before the dog or puppy leaves rescue.

All of our dogs and puppies come into rescue from the "death row" of animal shelters in the south, or are owner surrenders or strays who were "pound bound" before coming into rescue. Adopting a dog or puppy from the Dixie Pet Underground Railroad means you are truly part of a partnership to save the life of the dog or puppy that you welcome into your family.

Our dogs or puppies are fostered at our rescue in Tennessee, meaning that it isn't possible to meet the dog or puppy before adoption. Our adoption counselor works with you to do everything possible to ensure that there is a good match between the family and the dog. We have had several hundred dogs adopted using this process and most of the time, it results in happy puppies and happy people.

If for any reason an adoption is not successful, the Dixie Pet Underground Railroad will work with the adopter to find the best possible solution for the dog and the adopting family.

We can provide contact information for adopters in your area who can tell you about their experience partnering with the Underground Railroad to save the life of a dog and make the animal a part of their family.

We look forward to hearing from you and working with you to find the right dog for your family!
