My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hey Guys, I’m Payton. I’m 12 weeks old and am a Lab/Retriever Mix puppy. My brothers, sisters & I were brought to a kill shelter last month right before this silly game called the “Super Bowl” so we are the “Super Bowl” puppies. My coloring is different than my brothers. I’ve got a buff color and I have a little drop of white on my forehead. I was named Payton because I am sweet …. Sweetness, any true Chicago Bear fans remember #34?? But I’m a girl so you can spell it Peyton. Anyways, about me. I’m the smallest in my litter and really the sweetest girl ever. I am the cuddler in the group and love to be loved but when I get my toy or football I like to be chased. I like to spend my days playing with my toys or chewing on a Nyla bone. If I am really lucky, I like to cuddle with my Foster Grandma. See, she lets me cuddle with her and she wraps me up in a blanket – she makes me feel so warm & special. I am really tiny compared to my big sister & my brothers but I have a lot of spunk! I am working on my potty training – I go on these special pads my foster Mom has for me because I can’t go outside now, my foster Mom can explain why. I am really feel so special by everyone at IAR but you know what will make me feel so extra special? If you would set up a Meet & Greet and e-mail my foster Mom. I will be just cuddling with my blanket til you call, xoxo Payton.
Payton and her siblings contracted CoronaVirus from either the Mom’s milk and/or the kill shelter environment they came from. As soon as we were aware of this, medical attention was administered to the puppies. Payton’s siblings all rebounded from this virus but Payton, being the runt did not. Her intestines became twisted & recoiled; which required two surgeries from our veterinarians at Oswego Animal Hospital. Fortunately, Payton is a tough little puppy and she survived both surgeries and our vets give her positive outlook for her future. For right now they have placed her on a special diet to ensure her dietary track can handle food and to be given in small increments. After her two weeks of sutures were removed the vets feel she can resume a normal diet but slowly. In the two weeks since surgery, Payton has slowly been putting on weight.
She may have some food issues in her future and may remain small compared to her siblings but her spirit and personality is unbelievable. Payton beat the odds of her two surgeries and her future remains just as bright.
Payton is located in her foster home in Bolingbrook and if you have any questions regarding Payton’s health/dietary requirements, please email her at adogslifes02@yahoo.com.
