Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Norman, our super-cool old man kitty!
Norman is a domestic medium hair kitty approximately 12-14 years old, who came to us as a very at-risk stray. When he arrived, Norman was extremely emaciated, and we feared the worst. A thorough vet check-up showed that he has hyperthyroidism, which isn't uncommon in older cats.
Norman had evidently been living on his own outdoors for some time. Despite this rough lifestyle, he has a great, laid-back personality, is very social, loves snuggling, adores people, and even still has a little curious kitten in him. He seems to have partial blindness, but gets around his kennel and the shelter without any trouble--he runs, jumps, and climbs, just like a cat half his age.
Hyperthyroidism in cats can be cheaply and easily managed with medication (about $11 a month), and there are also permanent surgical fixes--but for a free-roaming, unowned, unmedicated outdoor kitty like Norman, hyperthyroidism is often a death sentence. But despite living with his wonky thyroid untreated for so long, Norman's other medical work-ups showed that he's in remarkably good shape, and all his other organs and levels look just fine for a normal healthy cat his age. And he's got such a great personality to boot!
Norman would be an awesome feline addition to any family, he gets along with other cats, and he even seems to tolerate most dogs. Because he is partially blind, and needs his daily meds (again, only about $11 per month), we do recommend that he goes to a home where he will be an indoor cat from now on, and get plenty of loving attention. The vet thinks that as long as his hyperthyroidism remains medicated, he has plenty of good healthy years ahead of him.
In the interest of finding him his new perfect forever home as soon as possible, Norman's adoption fee is being waived. He is vaccinated, neutered, de-wormed, been treated for fleas, and besides the hyperthyroidism, has a good bill of health from the vet.
Norman is an awesome cat, just looking for that person or people to make the rest of his tough life one of love, fun, and good health!
