Here's what the humans have to say about me:
MARCH 7th Update* Tundra is in a trial adoption. We often suggest a trial period for a possible adopter. After all, this is a big decision! We will know by March 15th whether TUNDRA is adopted. Please check back if you haven't found the dog of your dreams, in case he is available.
TUNDRA has a story which is all too common and dreadful. He was thrown out of a car with two other dogs near Berkeley Animal Shelter. They were all too scared to be handled. One went into a trap quickly, Tundra was caught on the third day by a group of volunteers, and third one left the area and was found, dying, on the streets 10 miles away a week later. TUNDRA was timid with people but when another dog was present he brightened up and he trusts people when a dog is nearby.
The day after being caught, he started showing signs of being sick, probably from poison he ate on the streets. He was rushed to a vet for surgery and survived. In the weeks after, he became more comfortable with people at the shelter and won the hearts of volunteers. But his need for canine companions made his adoption options harder.
This great little dog - he is about 35 pounds - deserves a better life than he has had. He can be sweet, affectionate and devoted. But he absolutely needs to be placed with another dog or dogs, he will need some time to adjust to a new situation so you'll need to be an experienced owner who can keep him secure and safe. And he does have some fear of certain men, so it is important that the men in his life understand how to build trust.
You'll be rewarded with a loving companion, a gentle dog and a loyal friend.
