My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Luna is quickly becoming the puppy she was meant to be. Shy at first, she is a bit of a talker when she first meets you. She just needs some time to decide that you are ok. Once that happens she’s going to go with you everywhere… bathroom included. On a recent trip to the pet store she went straight to the cashier and climbed up in her lap. As her confidence grows I think the initial fearful talking will stop happening.

Luna has an intra hepatic liver shunt, artresia of the caudal vena cava and fusion of the azygous vein with the vena cava. The azygous vein is now acting as the vena cava to compensate for the artresia of the vena cava, while also shunting blood away from the liver - creating 2 separate shunts. Whoever adopts her will want to be familiar with her situation, able to care for her properly by providing a low protein diet, twice daily medication(s) and the ability to obtain specialist care if needed. So far Luna is responding very well to treatment.

We are still working on potty training but she has gotten really good at it. She drinks a lot of water, which we want to help with flushing out her liver, but this creates more of a need for her to urinate. She wears potty pants as a precaution if we are inattentive to her needs. She prefers that her person be outside with her when she is out to potty otherwise she will yip at the door until you let her back in or go out with her.

She is crate trained - she may be very upset to start with but eventually settles down - but who wants to keep this little girl kenneled? She would be best in a home where she will have love around the clock.

She loves to follow her person around the house and loves to cuddle & has even started to give little kisses. She would be great in any type of household ie: loud, quiet, with or without other dogs and cats, however, I think that she does enjoy the companion of other dogs - cats just dont interest her. We are unsure of how she will do with small children as her foster home does not have any. We don't foresee an issue as she is pretty gentle but the children must be old enough to be respectful and cautious.
