Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Demi is a wonderful little girl. Her day consists of eating, sleeping and going outside to potty and roaming about in the yard. She is very independent despite her being blind. She is able to follow our voice and navigate to where we are, she also has an excellent nose, as all dogs do, and is able to follow the smell of yummy food. She is known for standing on her hind legs and begging with her front paws in hopes of getting goodies...it works every time.
Since coming to WLCCAR Demi has been health evaluated by our veterinarian and her organs all function well, she has been spayed, had a dental cleaning with many extractions (She will need soft food such as canned wet or completely moistened dry food) and has also been to a veterinary Ophthalmologist.
Demi's blindness is a result of being affect by PLL (primary lens luxation), a genetic disease where the lens is partially or fully dislocated from the threads that hold it in position within the eye. This disease can be quite painful and can, as in Demi's situation, cause blindness and glaucoma. She is currently on two eye medications. One is a steroid that prevents redness and inflammation and the other prevents the pressure from building in the eyes. Her right eye is affected with glaucoma and the lens in her left eye has completely dislocated and caused a hemorrhage within the eye. The blood within the eye comes and goes but with her drops she is happy as any dog can be.
We are unsure of Demi's exact age and with the help from our veterinarian have estimated her to be around 7 or 8. Regardless of her age Demi deserves to be in a loving forever home that wants her to be comfortable and happy for the rest of her days. You will fall head over heels for her the moment that you meet her.
