Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Renfroe is a very sweet little boy with a very sad story. He was abused by his first owner and then bounce around to 2 different homes. His last home, before coming to us, was not dogs savvy and was unable to allow Renfroe time to know that he was not going to be hurt. Since she was scared of him, he was scared of her and wouldn't let her touch him (he would nip at her).
When Renfroe first came to us at WLCCAR did this as well but we could clearly tell that he was terrified. We spoke softly to him and sat with him for a long while and allowed him to come to us on his own terms. It still took about a week of gentle coaxing and a bit of pushing him into uncomfortable situations but he has come around....he is also food driven so that helped a bunch in winning him over.
He is still scared of new people and, rightly so, is a bit apprehensive around men but he doing well in accepting that they wont hurt him. He is just a very frightened dog that needs someone that has the patience to allow him to become comfortable with his new person and environment.
Renfroe loves to run outside and likes toys too. He has tried to join in play a few times but is still a bit unsure about everything. Overall Renfroe does get along with other dogs and cats with no issues, we are unsure of how he will do with small children and should be introduce slowly and only with older children that are considerate and should never be left unsupervised with them or new people until you both have gotten to know each other.
Renfroe has been to our vet where it was noticed that he has a grade 4/6 heart murmur. While he is currently showing no clinical signs or symptoms, heart murmurs are unpredictable therefore it is required that Renfroe's adopter take him in yearly for an echo-cardiogram, sooner if clinical signs, such as exercise intolerance and labored breathing, fainting, occur.
