WHY IS HE IN NEED? - This little guy was one of 4 pups that was at the hoarding situation that we saved Bandit from. We are told that these are pups of his. He is 35 lbs, his sister is 17 lbs and his brother is 22 lbs and the Dad is about 40 lbs. The pups were described as collie/feist/mtn cur.
WHERE IS HE NOW?? - He is fostered now in Underwood - just north of Kincardine in a a week . He is currently with other dogs of all sizes and cats. He came into rescue December 20th.
Hee has been fully vetted- vaccinated, dewormed, heartworm tested, and will be chipped before placement.
We welcome your application for consideration.
**ALL ABOUT JACK **
He has just been moved to a new foster home as he was getting too bored at his original foster with no one his energy level to play with. This is an update from his new foster mom -
"Well Monty has met his match, they played all night..steady, almost 2 hours inside and out, was a good boy, Needs some work on basic manners as he's never been taught and so knows no different...jumping up, and some dinner time manners. I think it will be good for him to have play buddies for his energy
.Update from Foster mom :
A day in the life of Jack...
Jack is a good boy,he has lots of energy, and loves to play with other dogs, I have had Jack for a couple of months now and he has adapted well to our little pack..in which there are 4..
I work from 3 am - 12 noon, in which I put Jack in his kennel, he is out and about until we go to bed..he has been sleeping with me at night, but doesn't mind being in his kennel...
Jack comes from a hording situation and had lacked food for most of his short life, he was food possessive/ controling but we have been working on this, he eats with the other dogs now, I have been keeping him on a lead until they all finish at the same time.
I do have a 16 yr old cranky Chi who Jack stays clear of....
He is an affectionate dog and loves to lay beside you on the couch or in bed...
Jack loves his chew toys and will play unattended or zooms around the yard.
We go on pack walks on the weekends and he stays with us and the other dogs exploring and sniffing for cridders along the way...he does come when called, and does enjoy car rides.
Jack would do great with family / person who likes to walk and be outside and would love another dog for company, so if someone is looking for a dog who is active, loves to play, great watch dog, will bark if someone comes to the door..
He has been around children under 6 and seems to be okay with them.
I'm not sure about cats...
we have been training him to walk on leash with a harness and he does well...
This little guy just needs some love, and some training but will make a loving and devoted companion for a single person or an active family....
FOOD/ TOYS
Jack is a very good eater, we feed him 1 1/2 cups of dry with a tbsp. of wet mixed in,twice a day, he also gets table scraps, and loves pasta...
He does love treats of any kind.
I do put him at the other end of the room when feeding the other dogs, as he is food possessive/ controlling and will eat all he could if given the chance. Keeping him leashed and supervised while eating is critical for multi-dog homes until he learns he is ok
We think this stems from his days as a puppy with lack of food.
We buy the real wood bones or the heavy stuufed Nyla bone, which he will share or play tug of war with the other dogs with no issues
HOUSE TRAINING - RULES
He gets a treat in the yard when he pees there as positive reenforcement and I use that high pitched"Good boy Jack" so that he will now come to that tone expecting a treat.
He is doing very well with house-training.His only "accident" recently seemed a reaction to me not allowing him to howl at the window
He is loving. Sat on the top of the couch with his head on my shoulder last night when I cried watching a show.Jack is crated during the day, while I am at work, which is for 8 hours, or when we go to bed, and seems to like his space, he will whine for a couple of minutes just to let you know he would rather be with you in bed or on the couch.
I do let him sleep with me some nights, and he is a quiet and good sleeper.
Jack will bark if he hears noise or someone comes to the door.
He is fully house trained and has no accidents in the house, and will go to the door to be let out.
LEASH- TRAINING
.He is a serious puller on the leash. Very strong!! And able to worm under small spaces under the fence, thus lacking the excercise of running in the yard. Jack is a happy, friendly dog, We believe he is Fiest and Border Collie, but has the energy and personality of a Jack Russell.
We think he is a little over a year old, he has a lot of energy, but when it is time to settle down and rest he will.
He is happy to meet new people and new dogs, but can pull and bark if on a leash when he sees another dog.
PACK-MATES /CATS
He LOVES the cats and will chase them. I don't believe his intent is to hurt them and can at times sleep beside them on the couch. He mouths both the cats and the other dogs when excited. Like he is trying to play, but they don't much appreciate it. Grabs by legs or tail etc.He would do well with another dog to play with, big or small....or will do well on his own,
He will sit when asked and loves to play and run in the yard...
CRATING
He is great in his crate...whines and barks only when I leave and then when I return. If on a time out or at night, quietly rests and runs in his crate at dinner time as he eats there. Would eat everyone elses if allowed. He is a big eater and I let him as he is still quite thin.
ENERGY -PLAY
Jack is very strong, and does need a halti or a harness when out for a walk in town.
We have been taking Jack on our ''Pack Walks''off leash in the bush or on trails in our area, and he stays with the other dogs, sniffing happily and exploring, and comes when called, he will stay near you and doesn't like being out of your site, he will jump in the truck when we are ready to go and settle in.
Jack needs a fenced in area as he likes to run and explore,
He loves love Loves chew toys and is learning fetch(working on the release).
Best Type of Home ....
Jack would do well in any situation, with a family who spent a lot of time outdoors, or another pack mate to play with.
He needs someone willing to share their time and love, he would make a family or a active person a wonderful companion.

Applications

--This is a MS Word copy of our application.
It can be completed, saved and emailed back to the rescue at
petrescue@hurontel.on.ca
1. We require a fully filled app to be considered as a possible home
2. Only the approved app will be permitted a viewing with the pet ** in the foster home **
3. ALL family members MUST meet the dog ** in the foster home** .
4. Any existing pets MUST attend the meet/ greet with the dog ** at the foster home ** .
5. A home visit must be completed as part of the adoption process after the initial viewing by a rescue representative.
This is not a replacement of the meet/ greet at the Foster home.
6. We do not adopt outside of ONTARIO .
7. We do not deliver dogs. If and once the adoption process is approved and complete the dog must be picked up at the
foster home
****PLEASE DO NOT USE SKYE DRIVE OR COMPLETE THE APP TO FAX OR SCAN TO EMAIL IN AS WE ARE NOT ON A HIGH SPEED CONNECTION. ****
If you have any difficulties with the various application options please let us know @ petrescue@hurontel.on.ca
**** You must complete an adoption application in FULL in order for rescue to determine if the dog/cat is a good match for you and you are a good match for the Pet.
**** We do not show dogs /cats to people that merely want to drop in and look at the pet or see multiple pets **** .Not only are the pets fostered in various foster homes in various towns often hundreds of kilometers apart and not only do we simply do not have the manpower for that - more importantly it is unfair for the pet to be shown to various people and passed by - therefore we chose the most suitable application for the pet - then schedule a viewing.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
** ARE YOU FULLY COMMITTED ??????? .
Rescue values the time applicants put into filling out our application and the consideration of welcoming a new member into the family/ home.
Please be considerate to rescue AND volunteers when committing to a viewing.
Too many times rescue ends up making repeated changes d/t repeated delays for the approved applicant/ application. With delays - Rescue and pets are also impacted as rescue invests personal time around personal family time/ work time and cost of travel/ gas when arranging a viewing only to then have a late cancelation /applicants not even show up with no notification or even then have applicants back out .
Repeated delays hold up foster spots for pets in crisis and in turn it can cost them their lives!!.
**** PLEASE DON'T BE THE CAUSE OF AN ANIMAL IN NEED TO LOOSE THEIR LIFE D/T BEING OUT OF TIME **.
**** If we do not carefully screen where cats/ dogs are adopted to then the cycle would only continue when the ill-suited dog ends up back in the pound.
**** As it stand pounds are begging us to find space for healthy and adoptable dogs/ cats (who will be euthanized due to a simple lack of space) - So we Thank You in advance for respecting our successful process.

SAFE PLACEMENT FOR PET AND HOME
We welcome enquiries from applicants with well-behaved canines. Please do not apply if your dog has any possession aggression, or resource guards food/toys/space/owners, has leash aggression or aggression towards other dogs. This is for the safety of our foster dog/ cat and to ensure they do not become fear defensive.
We thank you for wanting to rescue a dog/ cat and simply ask that you address and correct your dog's issues before adding an adoptive animal in to the home. By allowing only well socialized and well trained pets to be considered as a possible forever home for our rescue dogs we are looking out for both our foster dog/ cat and your dog's own best interest. We also ask that if your cat is not used to having a dog around that you expose them to a family or friend's dog several times to see if they will accept a new family member within their home, before applying.
IF YOU FEEL YOUR CURRENT PACK IS STABLE & READY FOR A NEW MEMBER WE WELCOME YOUR INTEREST
Our rescue prides itself on adopting out the proper dog/cat to the proper family. If you would like to be considered for one of our dogs/cats please complete a adoption application as outlined in this bio.
If you are a successful applicant you will be asked to come to a viewing at the dog's/ cats foster home with your entire family, as well as your existing dog { if any }. It does not Guarantee an approved adoption. This viewing will allow your family, the foster home and I to see if this is a suitable match and ensure everyone is on the same page.
We will all take 24 hours to mull it over and go from there. Adoptions are not rushed. Our priority is placing the dog/cat in the proper family. On intake a new dog/ cat is assessed in a foster home to determine which type of home suits them best.
We will give preference to any application that has the fortitude to consider all aspects of the pets needs- both physical and Mental needs, To take their newly adopted dog to training to bond or cat into a safe indoor environment and learn together from a professional as needed who has the dog's best interest at heart.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FOSTERING
If there are any dog/ cat lovers out there now is the time to step up - there are many on the short list to be killed in shelters all over due to simple lack of space - please consider helping now - dogs/ cats are killed every hour - they die by being jabbed thru the heart (heart-sticking) and being gassed to death more often than humane euthanization!
Here are some links with additional info-
http://www.adoptapet.lucknow.on.ca/before-you-adopt-or-foster.html
If you are interested in fostering - please fill out the application here :
http://www.adoptapet.lucknow.on.ca/applications.html
We always need foster homes for the constant influx of new dogs/ cats in need - if you are interested in fostering - please consider that the rescue vets the cat /dog before they go in to foster care - they also provide a new dog collar and rescue i.d. tag on intake - as well as food - and any additional vetting needed thereafter the initial vetting.
We are happy to consider your home to foster an appropriate pet for your lifestyle if you are a believer in positive reinforcement and keeping cat indoors & dog on lead until recall and boundary trained, unless in a completely secure off leash area - We welcome foster homes in the Guelph/ Kitchener/Cambridge to London to Durham to Goderich area.
