WHY IS SHE HERE ?- Syd has tested heartworm and hookworm positive the first week of April and despite fecal testing before intake in December. She will start heartworm treatment when she is strong enough. She will not be up for adoption until she has tested negative.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sydney was taken into a kill shelter along with another sibe that we believe is her sister. Their time was up and rescue was able to take them in. This girl is 1.5 and under 40 lbs and was given up by a breeder with 13 dogs, to a pound where dogs are killed due to lack of space.

WHERE IS SHE NOW?- Sydney is being fostered in the Lucknow area. She is living with a number of dogs of various sizes and ages. She loves to have the companionship. She arrived December 7th She is being very good in her crate and is clean. She has been spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped, and boostered.

Her adoption fee is $400 which is a fraction of her vetting/ care rescue has provided.

** ALL ABOUT SYDNEY **

PERSONALITY
Sydney came from a hoarding situation in Tennessee. She had no idea about the real world. She now wags her tail. She does try to groom my own husky.
Syd is recuperating from a major misdiagnosis in the shelter, and has been retreated for parasites not found on initial tests. She has heartworm and will be treated for that when she's strong enough.

ENERGY LEVEL
Her energy is low right now as playing exacerbates heartworm.
She goes from her crate to the kitchen to eat and drink and go outside, then willingly goes back to her crate.
Thankfully this will be very helpful during her treatment phase.
Once she's on the mend I imagine like any young two year old, she will run like the wind.

PACKMATES & CATS

She lives with the foster homes own husky, aussie, poodle, all neutered males and ?a yorkie mix female, plus foster dogs. She has tried to groom the husky before.
She has not been exposed to cats.

HOUSE RULES
Because Syd was not ever raised as a pet, she has a strict schedule, to prevent accidents. She goes outside then comes back in and crates herself.
She does not get to free roam the house, nor do the others.
There is a baby gate put up to supervise them in that room when caregiver is home.

LEASH TRAINING- MANNER - COMMANDS
She is spooky on leash. She requires a secure fenced yard as she is oblivious to the dangers she faces if she bolts from fear.
She does know to sit, she knows get to bed, and sometimes listens to lay down.

FOOD - TOYS -
She loves food, and treats.
Sydney was emaciated and yet was never food aggressive.
She doesn't really play with toys, as she was so malnourished she would try to ingest anything she could reach.

BATHING & CARE -
She has been groomed twice and was very good about it.

YARD MANNERS -
She isn't allowed in the yard due to the hookworm and whipworm infestations she had. She goes out on leash to a seperate area and comes back in.

CRATE -
She goes in her crate on her own. When caregiver is home and leaves the room Syd wants to follow and can nose the crate handle and get out. Therefore it is clipped as well to ensure she isn't running around lose when she's to be crated. She had got herself stuck trying to get out so this is for her own safety.

TRAVELING IN CAR -
She is excellent in the vehicle, we tether her as she knows she wants out when we arrive at destination and this avoids her bolting.

CURRENT ROUTINE -
She goes outside and comes in and crates herself.

THE BEST HOME IS ? -
She will need a Siberian or highly dog experienced home to sib breeds, that knows she needs a secure yard and another Siberian/ packmate . Preferred home that is layed back/ quiet and not busy/ noisy and with No small children d/t her timidness. An adult home or a home with teens is prefered. Accessing a trainer is a must to help with bonding and utilizing the proper training methods to build Sydney's confidence.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PLEASE NOTE WE DO NOT ADOPT OUT OF THE PROVINCE OF ONTARIO AND WILL NOT SHIP A PET!

*** HOW IT WORKS - ADOPTION INFORMATION ****
Please read ** ALL** the information provided below on the process to
save time and facilitate the process in a smooth manner.

The adoption fee does NOT cover the cost of vetting or supplies for these animals - If you cannot afford the adoption fee
(that is a fraction of actual REDUCED VETTING expenses incurred) then you should reconsider adopting.
These animals deserve forever homes, good food, regular vet care, and emergency care as needed.
Pets should never be euthanized by their owners simply based on financial consideration when something goes wrong.

Applications
http://www.adoptapet.lucknow.on.ca/applications.html--This is a MS Word copy of our application.
It can be completed, saved and emailed back to the rescue at
petrescue@hurontel.on.ca .

1. We require a fully filled app to be considered as a possible home
2. Only the approved app will be premitted a viewing with the pet ** in the foster home **
3. ALL family members MUST meet the dog ** in the foser home** .
4. Any exsisting pets MUST attend the meet/ greet with the dog ** at the foster home ** .
5. A home visit must be completed as part of the adoption process after the inital viewing by a rescue representative.
This is not a replacement of the meet/ greet at the Foster home.
6. We do not adopt outside of ONTARIO .
7. We do not deliver dogs. If and once the adoption process is approved and complete the dog must be picked up at the
foster home

****PLEASE DO NOT USE SKYE DRIVE OR COMPLETE THE APP TO FAX OR SCAN TO EMAIL IN AS WE ARE NOT ON A HIGH SPEED CONNECTION.

If you have any difficulties with the various application options please let us know @ petrescue@hurontel.on.ca

**** You must complete an adoption application in FULL in order for rescue to determine if the dog/cat is a good match for you and you are a good match for the Pet.

**** We do not show dogs /cats to people that merely want to drop in and look at the pet or see multiple pets **** .Not only are the pets fostered in various foster homes in various towns often hundreds of kilometres apart and not only do we simply do not have the manpower for that - more importantly it is unfair for the pet to be shown to various people and passed by - therefore we chose the most suitable application for the pet - then schedule a viewing.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

** ARE YOU FULLY COMMITTED ??????? .
Rescue values the time applicants put into filling out our application and the consideration of welcoming a new member into the family/ home.

Please be considerate to rescue AND volunteers when committing to a viewing.
Too many times rescue ends up making repeated changes d/t repeated delays for the approved applicant/ application. With delays - Rescue and pets are also impacted as rescue invests personal time around personal family time/ work time and cost of travel/ gas when arranging a viewing only to then have a late cancelation /applicants not even show up with no notification or even then have applicants back out .
Repeated delays hold up foster spots for pets in crisis and in turn it can cost them their lives!!.

**** PLEASE DON'T BE THE CAUSE OF AN ANIMAL IN NEED TO LOOSE THEIR LIFE D/T BEING OUT OF TIME **.

**** If we do not carefully screen where cats/ dogs are adopted to then the cycle would only continue when the ill-suited dog ends up back in the pound.

**** As it stand pounds are begging us to find space for healthy and adoptable dogs/ cats (who will be euthanized due to a simple lack of space) - So we Thank You in advance for respecting our successful process.

SAFE PLACEMENT FOR PET AND HOME

We welcome enquiries from applicants with well-behaved canines. Please do not apply if your dog has any possession aggression, or resource guards food/toys/space/owners, has leash aggression or aggression towards other dogs. This is for the safety of our foster dog/ cat and to ensure they do not become fear defensive.
We thank you for wanting to rescue a dog/ cat and simply ask that you address and correct your dog's issues before adding an adoptive animal in to the home. By allowing only well socialized and well trained pets to be considered as a possible forever home for our rescue dogs we are looking out for both our foster dog/ cat and your dog's own best interest. We also ask that if your cat is not used to having a dog around that you expose them to a family or friend's dog several times to see if they will accept a new family member within their home, before applying.

IF YOU FEEL YOUR CURRENT PACK IS STABLE & READY FOR A NEW MEMBER WE WELCOME YOUR INTEREST
Our rescue prides itself on adopting out the proper dog/cat to the proper family. If you would like to be considered for one of our dogs/cats please complete a adoption application as outlined in this bio.
If you are a successful applicant you will be asked to come to a viewing at the dog's/ cats foster home with your entire family, as well as your existing dog { if any }. This viewing will allow your family, the foster home and I to see if this is a suitable match.
We will all take 24 hours to mull it over and go from there. Adoptions are not rushed. Our priority is placing the dog/cat in the proper family. On intake a new dog/ cat is assessed in a foster home to determine which type of home suits them best.

We will give preference to any application that has the fortitude to take their newly adopted dog to training to bond or cat into a safe indoor enviroment and learn together from a professional as needed who has the dog's best interest at heart.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FOSTERING

If there are any dog/ cat lovers out there now is the time to step up - there are many on the short list to be killed in shelters all over due to simple lack of space - please consider helping now - dogs/ cats are killed every hour - they die by being jabbed thru the heart (heart-sticking) and being gassed to death more often than humane euthanization!

Here are some links with additional info-
http://www.adoptapet.lucknow.on.ca/before-you-adopt-or-foster.html
http://www.adoptapet.lucknow.on.ca/faq---foster.html
If you are interested in fostering - please fill out the application here :
http://www.adoptapet.lucknow.on.ca/applications.html

We always need foster homes for the constant influx of new dogs/ cats in need - if you are interested in fostering - please consider that the rescue vets the cat /dog before they go in to foster care - they also provide a new dog collar and rescue i.d. tag on intake - as well as food - and any additional vetting needed thereafter the initial vetting.

We are happy to consider your home to foster an appropriate pet for your lifestyle if you are a believer in positive reinforcement and keeping cat indoors & dog on lead until recall and boundary trained, unless in a completely secure off leash area - We welcome foster homes in the Guelph/ Kitchener/Cambridge to London to Durham to Goderich area.

Please contact the rescue via email at petrescue@hurontel.on.ca
For more info if you are interested in fostering - again we do ask that you complete our application so we know your expectations and can match with you a dog/cat that suits.
