02/02/2015: Scout Is Heartworm Positive - Needs A Foster Home To Recover

Scout is a handsome male boxer who was picked up as a stray. He is estimated to be about 4 years old and weighs about 55 pounds. His overall body condition was surprisingly good and the Shelter was amazed that no one came to claim him. He was on the list to be put down so NBR agreed to take him to save his life.

This Shelter neuters their dogs and tests for Heartworm before the dogs are released. Unfortunately Scout’s blood test came back positive for heartworms. NBR had committed to Scout and these results did not change our mind about taking him. However, the fact that he needs to undergo heartworm treatment complicates matters.
Scout has been placed on doxycycline per the guidelines of the American Heartworm Society and is scheduled to receive the heartworm treatment injections on March 17 and 18. After his treatment in March, Scout will need a home where he can lead a quiet lifestyle for the next 30 days.

We are desperately seeking someone to come forward to foster him.

Scout became a favorite of the Shelter staff. He is very sweet and has proven to be good around other dogs. We are not certain how he is with cats but this should not be a concern while he recovers from his heartworm treatment since he will need to be restrained.
