My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ralphie is a sweet male Basenji mix.  He is 37 lbs and about 14 months.

Ralphie and his sister Jeanie were saved from a kill shelter in San Antonio at the last hour of death row by a Samaritan and then abandoned at a dog kennel.  We just recently got them transferred to us so that we can find them a home.  Disclaimer:  We are all guessing he is a Basenji mix.  He could also be part Lab as well, but it is only a guess.

Since they have been in the kennel since August, Ralphie will require some TLC, leash and obedience training.  Ralphie is not aggressive.  He seems to be very smart and is able to work on obedience commands best after he has been walked first.  He does like treats.  He is high energy.  He will require daily 2-3 walks/runs.   We have been working on his  leash training.  He likes car rides and hangs out in the back seat.  When I took him to the vet he was introduced to other dogs, cats and birds.  He didn't want to kill the cats, but thought they would be nice to play with/chase and if let off leash.  He thought the birds were exciting to watch, so would teach him "leave it" if adopter has birds.  He seems to like all other dogs and was friendly to them, but highly recommend that his adopter takes him to structured dog social events to learn how to properly socialize with other dogs. Ralphie and Jeanie get along, but become aggressive with each other when there is food or treats involved.

Ralphie is a great companion dog and will blossom with a patient family that is willing to give him love and daily walks/runs and structure/routine.  If you want to do Facetime/Skype to meet him we can do that as well.  If Ralphie is not a good match, we may have other great matches that need a loving home.
