Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi, my name is Darla! I'm a 4 year old bichon frise. I'm a petite little girl weighing approx. 10 lbs. I was rescued from a commercial breeding facility that was closing its doors. Lucky girl for sure! Now I get to learn what being a beloved pet is all about instead of living in a cage producing puppies for the rest of my life. There are so many things that I never got to experience in the cage. Now I get to sleep on soft blankets, go outside in the fresh and and feel the soft grass/snow under my feet and the warm sunshine on my back, eat nutritious food, and be loved and cared for by people who just want to love me rather than use me to make money.
I was very shy at first and would run away from my foster parents if they tried to touch me. I'm still shy about being picked up, but now I'll just stop and let them pick me up instead of running away. I really enjoy being with other dogs and definitely need to go to a home with another small dog for companionship and play. I also need to go to a home with a fenced yard for safety.
Since being rescued, I've been spayed, microchipped, heartworm tested (negative), dewormed, vaccinated, and had a dental cleaning. I'm being fed a high-quality food that doesn't contain any corn, wheat, soy, meat by-products or other low-quality ingredients, and I hope my new family will continue to feed me a high-quality food for the rest of my life. I'm being fostered in Madison, WI, and my adoption fee is $300. If you're interested in adopting me, please email Margaret at loveforbichons@gmail.com to request an application.
The adoption process with Safe Haven Bichon and Friends Rescue includes an application, reference checks, and a home visit. We do not ship dogs on planes or send them on transports. Adopters need to come to the foster home to do adopt.
