Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Dexter was recently rescued from an extremely sad existence on the end of a chain where he had lived for more than 4 years. He is so happy and grateful now and would love a forever home where his family would play fetch with him and give him lots of love. He is good with some other dogs. He so deserves a second chance at a happy life. Dexter is a wheaton terrier/sharpei mix who is approximately 6 years old. He is neutered, microchipped and current on his rabies vaccine. Call Susan at 314-4149 for more info . UPDATE: APRIL 09 2008 Dexter's foster mom has been working very hard with him and he is doing so well! He's leash trained and loves to lie by her feet when inside. He would do best as an only dog - we will cover the cost of a training class with Dexter. Here is his story --Dexter was first seen in the South Valley by the Alliance Against Animal Abuse, Inc. on 2-13-03. --The previous dog at that location had died. A neighbor called to say he was tied in a back yard with out any containers for food or water and couldn't reach the dog house on the property. --It took three calls to Bernalillo Co. Animal Control to get the dog moved where he could reach the dog house and get a water container. (There are no "no-tie out" restrictions in Bernalillo Co.) --3-19-03 Dog locked in shed--barking. (not a Bernalillo Co. ordinance violation). --2-12-04 Neighbor says Dexter's water frozen and neighbor can't get to it. AAAA called BCAC. --6-26-04 Alliance checks when feces started building up and drinking water was green and he had no shade. --7-3-04 Neighbor offered dog owner board to put up shade and was refused. 7-7-04 Small amount of shade put up for dog. (boards over saw-horse). 7-21-04 AAAA called BCAC Supervisor. Dog matted, no food for days. August 05 Welfare check on Dexter and call to BCAC regarding lack of water, feces piled up, etc. 7-20-06 Neighbor says no shade except board across saw-horse. Hole dug by dog underneath. Water none or green. Food is often chips (corn or potato). Alliance requested BCAC to tell owners if they don't want the dog some organization could find it a home. 2-17-07 Neighbor says owners separating. Man left at house that NEVER cared for dog. AAAA suggested neighbor tell him "with all the work he has to do by himself now why not give dog to humane organization" and HE DID!! Alliance had no foster home available so paid intake and call back fees to AHA. They kept him four weeks in which he gained nine pounds and then had to move him, one way or another. SECOND CHANCE ANIMAL RESCUE found a foster home and the Alliance will pay Dexter's expenses until a good home is found. He deserves a "second chance" at a happy life!!
