Here's what the humans have to say about me:
You’ve heard the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears? Goldilocks tried the first bed, and it was too hard. She tried the second bed, and it was too soft. She tried the third bed, and it was JUST RIGHT. That fits Dempsey, he is just right!
After spending seven of his 10 years of living outdoors in a pen, he has settled right into living inside again. Being confined makes him nervous, so he has had free-run of his foster home and has not bothered anything at all, even when his foster Mom is at work. He will countersurf if something delectable is left out, but what Weim doesn’t?
He is a large, regal-looking, charming Weim with no extremes in temperament and excellent manners. There are two very dominant female Weims and one middle-of-the-pack male dog at the foster home and he has gotten along fine with everyone from the get-go.
Dempsey is not pushy or demanding of attention, but will wait patiently for you to notice him. His manners are impeccable at home and at the Vet’s office. Like most Weims, he is somewhat of a Velcro dog; he likes to be in the same room with you but doesn’t have to be. He would love to curl up next to you on the couch but is also fine just laying in the same room as you.
He walks fairly well on a leash and does not jump up or get pushy when greeting people.
We don’t know about his feelings on cats indoors. He looks at the barn cats through the fence at his foster home but shows no reaction to them. Dempsey is active, but not too active. He is not afraid of storms and is not a recreational barker. In fact, he hardly barks at all.
Dempsey loves to go for car rides and chew on Nylabones. He is trained to a dog door and has not had ONE accident in the house. He is so intelligent that it took him all of five minutes to figure out the dog door.
He will sleep in your bed, on the floor, on the living room couch, anywhere that is soft! He adapted so well and so quickly to living in a home, it is hard to believe that he came from a hard outdoor life. He is a very gentle, mellow and laid back boy who is straightforward and uncomplicated. His only “quirk” is that he will need a doggy friend – he does not like to be by himself.
