Hi! My name is Chili! I’m a Dachshund mix, maybe with a little Chihuahua or small breed terrier mixed in. I’m about 1.5 years old, male, and am 15-17 pounds. I’m so happy I got rescued from the high intake county kill shelter I was found in! Now I’m livin’ it up in foster care, but I’m ready to find a family to call my own! Let me tell you a little about myself!

First, my temperament and disposition pretty well rings true to those personality traits most commonly associated with my primary breed, the Dachshund. I’m a big dog trapped in a little dog’s body. Spunky, lively and courageous, I’m bold and fearless and have an “Alpha” type of personality. I currently live with four other dogs, all of which are larger than me (30-50 pounds), and I love romping and playing games of chase, tug of war, and rough housing with them. I’ve not been around cats before, so I’d have to meet one before I could tell you how I feel about them. I’m curious about most everything and enjoy playing with toys – some of my favorites are Nylabones, squeaky toys, and those soft fluffy toys they make without the stuffing. I’m also well known for my love of paper products – there is nothing more fun than grabbing the end of a roll of toilet paper roll and taking a trot down the hallway with it!

The Dachshund was bred as a hunter of small, burrow dwelling animals, and as such, you can expect me to burrow under the covers and snuggle with you at night. I generally love blankets and pillows, because I like to get comfy cozy for an afternoon nap!

I would generally describe myself as an active boy, and I enjoy going to the park and taking leash walks, as well as riding in the car. But once the activities of the day are done, I'm love to snuggle and take a nice long sleep. I’m house broken and crate trained too.

Probably the most important thing you should know about me is that I need a forever home that has some patience. Like many Dachshunds, I’m very uncertain of unfamiliar people, and that being the case, I will growl and bark at them (I make a great guard dog!). I am NOT aggressive and haven’t ever bitten; my growling and barking is just how I react when presented with someone new. We all have our little quirks, and that’s one of mine. But I’m a smart boy and a pretty good judge of character, and with time I always figure out that people just want to be my friend. And once I understand that you’re a friend, you won’t find a more loyal, loving and devoted dog than me! I will be yours forever and always!

I would be best suited in a home with an active family, a fenced yard or with someone that has the time to take me on nice long walks regularly or to the park for a good run. I would most likely do best in a home with adults only or with older children. I haven’t been around young kids much and the sudden movements and noises that young children make may frighten me.

On another note, I’m up to date on all of my vaccinations, have been heartworm tested and am current on preventative, am current on flea/tick preventative, have been neutered and microchipped.

If you are interested in giving me a loving forever home, The Way Home Rescue Alliance Adoption Process is as follows:

- E-mail my foster mom at sarahthewayhome@gmail.com with any questions you have or to request an adoption application.
- Complete the adoption application and return it to my foster mom.
- Upon review and reference check of the application, my foster mom will get in touch with you to set up a “meet and greet” and perform a home visit.
- As previously mentioned, because I’m wary of new people, the best way to get to know me and for me to get to know you is through a ‘foster to adopt’ trial period. This means that I would stay with you for a couple of weeks to see if we are a good match before finalizing the adoption. If we are, at the end of the trial period then the adoption contract is signed and adoption fee is paid. If we aren’t a good fit, then my foster mom will come and pick me up.

Thanks so much for reading about me and considering a rescue dog like me! Happy tail wags – hope to see talk to you soon!
