Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Bear is being fostered in Saskatchewan.
Please fill the online Adoption application found at www.collierescuenetwork.com before sending an inquiry about Bear.
Bear is an active boy who is just under 2 years old. He would love to find a home that wants to play toys with him - especially throw his balls over and over! Although Bear doesn't play fetch, exactly. He just really wants to to throw lots and lots of balls for him to chase and eventually he will gather them all up and hide them in his crate. Every few days his foster mom digs them out and they play another round of "catch the ball".
Bear is a big love-bug who would curl up in your lap if he could! He loves to be groomed and brushed because he's pretty sure it should be part-grooming and part-snuggles! So, while he's great with being brushed, schedule some extra time for cuddles and kisses too.
Bear is good with the cats in his foster home and will be fine with dog savvy cats who don't mind a dog who wants to play chase with them occasionally. Bear isn't sure why they cats don't play "chase me" like a normal dog but he tries. Cats who don't appreciate the fun Bear intends may not love the game as much as he does.
Bear is is great with other dogs and likes to play chase with them. He would do best with a very laid-back doggie pal in his new home as opposed to being alone. He does, however, get vocal and sulky if they have a toy he would like for himself. He isn't a fighter that way but will go off and sulk and let everyone know he's unhappy they have 'his' toy.
Bear came to rescue with some issues regarding food. He would eat anything he could snatch and swallow, including gravel from the driveway, rocks outside, and a multitude of other inedible items. He has learned to slow down when eating now with help from a special bowl and has stopped eating inappropriate things after learning that another meal will be coming eventually! He still though has hang-ups about food guarding and needs to be fed in his crate away from other animals. Things that contain food, like the garbage can, need to be kept put away (in a cupboard, under the sink, etc.) or he will feel the urge to guard that too. Bear needs a home who understands food guarding and the reasons behind it and will be dedicated to working with him on this issue. Due to his food guarding he will not be adopted to a home with children under the age of 16.
Bear loves his walks and walks really nicely on leash. He would actually make a fantastic jogging buddy for anyone who might be looking for company every morning! He would also excel at some of the doggie sports, herding in particular as he has a very high herding instinct.
Bear will need time in a new home to feel safe and settle but once he does, he's a beautiful boy who wants to be as close as possible to you and be your Special Boy. He's truly a lovely little guy and would love to find a family to love him furever. if you are interested in Bear, please fill in the online application form found at www.collierescuenetwork.com before sending an inquiry. Please fully read the adoption process outlined on the website. A $350 adoption fee applies to all dogs adopted through Collie Rescue Network.
