Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi, my name is JD! Sweetness is my middle name. I am one of the most affectionate pups and boy do I have a story to tell you. You see, I was found on the side of the road in Houston emaciated, dehydrated, very injured and defeated. I was picked up by a very concerned passerby and taken to the city pound to be euthanized to ease my suffering. The workers there did not even bother to take me into the building because they knew I would not make it due to my severe injuries, but by grace…they gave me one last shot. They sent out a plea to area rescues asking for help and that's the moment when my life changed forever. A rescue volunteer got the email, realized the urgency and came to pick me up at the pound within the hour. WHEW, close call!!!
I was taken to the emergency vet right away where they gave me pain medicine and tried to figure out where to start my recovery. I was just skin and bones, fleas and mange. My sunken eyes were sad and lonely, but I had hope now that I was getting attention. The gaping wound on my leg was bad, but not like the two dislocated hips and fractured spine and pelvis. My temperature was low, I was in shock and my body was shutting down quickly…but I still had hope, although the vet had a guarded prognosis.
The rescue volunteers sat with me and gave me pep talks for a good while and then tucked me in for the night. They were so loving and positive, but they really weren’t sure if I would make it through the night. But what they and the doctors didn't know is that I am not an ordinary dog! My body may have been weak, but I have a lion’s heart.
Every day I surprised my new human friends by getting stronger and working so hard to fully recover. After two weeks in the hospital a lovely foster took me under her wing and brought me back with care and love. Of course, I soaked up the attention because I’d never had this before. They didn’t give up on me and I was pulling through with their help. Two hip surgeries later and lots of recovery time and look at me now!!!
I am a healthy, active, 65 pound, 3 years old stunning boy..well, at least that is what they tell me! I’m silly, affectionate, fun- loving and unbelievably happy to have survived. The one thing I’m missing to complete my life is someone to call my own who can share my story of survival. Just in case you need a visual of my happiness, my whole body wags! I love to sunbathe in the grass, take long walks and just be around my people. Car rides, milk bones and belly rubs are pretty great too! I play well with large dogs and older children, but I’m not a big fan of cats.
My journey has been long thus far, but I want the longest part of it to be with you as part of your family. I’m fully vetted (neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated and “remodeled”). I am house and kennel trained and I walk amazingly well on leash!
My adoption fee is $200 and I'm worth every last penny of it, I promise. An adoption contract and adoption fee apply for my adoption.
