Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi! My name is Jasper! I'm a 6 year old bichon/poodle mix. I was given by my owners when they split up and one of them moved out and couple take me with. It's actually a good thing because I was extremely obese when I came into Safe Haven Bichon and Friends Rescue in late October. I weighed 30.8 lbs. when I was rescued! For my body frame, I should weigh about 15 - 20 lbs. at the most! So, my rescuer who also happens to be my foster mom, went to work at trimming me down! I've already lost 6 pounds in the two months I've been here. She's feeding me a high-quality, grain-free, low-fat food called Wellness Core Reduced Fat. I get a measured amount (1/3 cup) two times daily mixed with a little pumpkin to help me feel full. That's it. And you know what? I'm just fine with that because I don't feel nearly as exhausted and uncomfortable. I'm able to run and play now, and I'm not panting constantly anymore. It was almost like I couldn't breathe I was so fat! I still have at least 5 more pounds to lose, but at this rate, I'm sure I'll get there. Whoever adopts me needs to be committed to help me continue to lose weight and stay there!
Some other important things for you to know about me are that first and foremost, I'm a cuddler! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to sit on my foster parents' laps and be loved. I especially love it when my foster dad holds me in his lap on the recliner and rubs my belly. I fall fast asleep because it feels so good. I get along okay with other dogs, but to be honest, I'd rather be an only dog so I can get all the love and attention! I like to play with toys too, and it's easier to play now that I've lost weight.
I'm already neutered, I'm up to date on vaccinations, and before I got to my forever home, I'll have my teeth cleaned and get microchipped. Like I mentioned above, I'm being fed a high-quality food that doesn't contain any corn, wheat, soy, meat by-products or other low-quality ingredients, and I'm hoping my new family will continue to feed me a high-quality food and keep me in tip top shape for the rest of my life! I'm being fostered in Barneveld, WI, and my adoption fee is $300. If you're interested in adopting me, please email Margaret at loveforbichons@gmail.com to request an application.
The adoption process with Safe Haven Bichon and Friends Rescue includes an application, reference checks, and a home visit. We do not ship dogs on planes or send them on transports. Adopters must come to the foster home to adopt.
