Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Leaps over bushes in a single bound! Flies through the air with the greatest of ease! Actually, sweet Mandy loves to go hiking and leap over bushes. She runs and gracefully flies through the air like a deer. She’s such a joy to watch!
Mandy is a delightful “mostly Border Collie,” 4 years young, 45 pound, smart girl. She’s also spayed and has her recent rabies and distemper-parvo vaccinations. Mandy is the perfect size pooch, and enjoys outdoor walks and exploring. Mandy is a smart girl and will likely do well learning a job. Indoors, she is quiet as a mouse. She gets along with some dogs, no kitties please. She is ready to share her affection and love with you!
You won’t believe how far this Superdog has come since she’s been in foster care! Mandy was so afraid of people when her foster mom got her that a leash was left on Mandy 24/7 just so she could be coaxed out of her bed to go outside. She wouldn’t let anyone near her and only wanted to stay huddled at the back of her crate (her safe place). Fast forward 2 months ... Mandy loves to play with her foster mom and loves to go where her foster mom goes. Mandy watches TV with her mom, helps her with computer work in the den and sleeps on her doggie bed in the bedroom. Two months ago, Mandy wouldn’t leave her crate! Now she likes to go everywhere!
And how about this??!! Mandy just got back from her first-ever hike and BBQ day. She went for a 5 mile hike “out in the country,” and Mandy was off leash the entire day. She stayed close...only went about 100 feet away on each of her thousand mini-adventures over and around the bushes...then galloped back to check in. She didn’t want her people to get too far away. At the BBQ by Bartlett Lake, she stayed within just a few feet of the lunch site. Mandy also has learned to jump in and out of the car! When we got her, she wouldn’t get in the car. Now she goes in and out easily.
We’re not sure what happened to Mandy before we got her, but she’s still shy around strangers at first. She’s also afraid of hands that get too close to her too fast. But not her foster mom’s hands. Her mom has been showing Mandy that hands that move around fast are safe. And she totally trusts her mom now. She’ll trust her new family in no time!
Mandy may take a few days to warm up to her new “people.” But it’s worth it! She’s a gem once she comes out of her shell. She’s SO playful and loving. Loves her doggie toys. Loves to play games with her mom. And LOVES to go for walks...WALKS are her FAVORITE!.
Folks, Mandy has come a long way in a short time. I imagine that with your love and training, she will be a super star! She’s smart and learns FAST! She will probably do best in a quieter home without young children. She’s going to need some space and patience when you first get her.
Here are just a few of Mandy's amazing assets:
• Calm and well-mannered in the house
• Crate trained & house-trained
• In excellent health and physical shape
• A quiet girl indoors and the perfect watchdog outdoors (will bark if someone tries to come into the yard)
• Rides well in the car -- so take her with you
• Learns fast
• Watches TV with you
• Helps you on the computer
• A sweetie pie
• Beautiful sleek, soft coat
• Loves to go on walks, great on a leash
• Up-to-date on shots
• Spayed
This sweetie was rescued from a small community animal shelter with a HIGH KILL rate, then taken to a foster home in the area. Later, the woman who was fostering her, had to have open-heart surgery and could no longer care for Mandy. When we heard she could go back to the high kill shelter, we rescued her ourselves. Now she's ready for her furever home. Mandy would love to be your best buddy! She's an absolute pleasure to have around.
