Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi, my name is Hazel, a 6 year old pekingese. My best buddy here in the pictures with me is Marie, an 8 year old bichon frise. We are a bonded pair and need to be adopted together. Our bonded started when we were both rescued from a puppy mill and went to Safe Haven Bichon and Friends Rescue together. Right away, we starting cuddling together like we knew we were the new kids on the block. Our bond has just grown from there.
We both enjoy being outside in the fenced yard at our foster home. Marie every once in awhile gets a sudden burst of exuberance and does the bichon blitz, where she runs at full speed around the yard. Since I'm not a bichon, I do more of the trotting around the yard with my beautiful red hair flowing and my tail up high showing that I'm a happy little girl. I also really like to lie in the sun and feel the warmth. Marie and I are both just so happy to be free from the puppy mill and experience the warm sun on our backs and the soft grass under our feet. We also enjoy wrestling with each other and just being silly sometimes!
I (Hazel) weigh about 12 lbs., and Marie weighs about 8 lbs. We're both quite shy and that's why it's important for us to be adopted together. Puppy mill survivors like us take comfort in having another dog as a companion because that's all we've ever known. We're both getting more and more comfortable with our foster parents. Marie loves to lie on her back and have our foster mom rub her tummy. She just closes her eyes and soaks up all the love. I'm a little more independent and like to just sit near our foster parents or lie at their feet.
Since being rescued, we've both been spayed, microchipped, heartworm tested (negative) and put on preventative, dewormed, vaccinated, and had dental cleanings. We're being fed a high-quality food that doesn't contain any corn, wheat, soy, meat by-products or other low-quality ingredients, and we hope our new family will continue to feed us a high-quality food for the rest of our lives. We're being fostered in Rockford, IL, and our combined adoption fee is $500. If you're interested in adopting us, please email Margaret at loveforbichons@gmail.com to request an application.
The adoption process with Safe Haven Bichon and Friends Rescue includes an application, reference checks, and a home visit. We do not ship dogs on planes or send them on transports. Adopters need to come her to do the adoption.
