Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
I found a new home! Plenty of my friends are looking for one too. Check out other pets at this shelter, or start a new search.

Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi, my name is Lucy! I'm a bichon/poodle mix who was released from a puppy mill in January of 2013. Since my release, I've been learning so many new things about what life outside the puppy mill is like. My favorite things so far are eating the healthy food and treats my foster parents feed me and running around playing in the fenced yard at my foster home with my foster sisters. I've also learned to navigate steps and can do a whole flight now! I'm still a little shy about being picked up, but once my foster parents are holding me, I relax and enjoy the loving. I also love to look out the window at the great big world I've been introduced to since leaving the cage at the puppy mill. So many interesting, exciting things to see and do! Cuddling with my foster sisters is another of my favorite things to do. And I have learned to enjoy chewing on rubber bones and treat-filled Kongs. Oh, and I can't forget to tell you that I can stand on my back legs like a poodle! Super cute!
I definitely need to go to a home with another socialized dog that will continue to help me learn to trust, not to mention I need a cuddle and play buddy. A fenced yard is also important to me so that I can run and play in safety. I just LOVE blitzing around the yard with my foster mom and the other dogs I live with. I do very well at the groomer's, and I even let my foster mom brush my teeth now! My leash and harness training is coming along nicely too.
Since being rescued, I've been spayed, microchipped, heartworm tested (negative) and put on preventative, dewormed, vaccinated, and had a dental cleaning. I'm being fed a high-quality food that doesn't contain any corn, wheat, soy, meat by-products, or other low-quality ingredients, and I'm hoping my new family will continue to feed me a high-quality food for the rest of my life. I'm being fostered in Madrid, IA, and my adoption fee is $250. If you're interested in adopting me, please contact Margaret at loveforbichons@gmail.com to request an application.
The adoption process with Safe Haven Bichon and Friends Rescue includes an application, reference checks, and a home visit. We do not ship dogs/puppies on planes or send them on transports. Adopters are required to come to the foster home to adopt.
