Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi, my name is Aiden! I'm a handsome four year old bichon frise. I was rescued from a puppy mill along with my friend April, but those days are far behind me. April and I were the last two remaining bichons at this particular puppy mill, and we're glad we didn't have to leave any of our white fluffy buddies behind when we got rescued! April has been adopted into a loving home. I'm hoping I get my forever home soon! My foster mom tells me I have that super sweet personality that male bichons have where I'm very docile and timid, but just love to cuddle in when she holds me. I'm still not sure I like being picked up because back in the puppy mill April and I came from, we were handled very roughly. I'm learning that hands can be kind and gentle. I'm enjoying watching my foster parents and each day I'm learning to trust them more and more.
One of my favorite things since being rescued is exploring in the fenced yard at my foster home. I could spend hours out there just sniffing and feeling the sunshine on my back! I'm learning a lot from the other dogs here at my foster home about what being a family pet is all about. I have to say, it beats living in a cage being used solely for breeding by a long shot! Now I get to eat healthy food, sleep on soft blankets and beds instead of wire, and most importantly, I get to be loved just for being a sweet, adorable little boy, not for the money I'm making for the breeder. I have discovered the joy of toys and have become a very good car traveler. My potty training is coming along, and I know my name, so I am great with coming when called. I do have a recently diagnosed cataract in my right eye. It causes me no pain, as I am on an eye drop to keep inflammation at bay. I will need to stay on this twice daily drop for a long time, but I am really great with taking it. My vision is limited in that eye, but my other eye sees very well. I have been evaluated and monitored by a great veterinary opthamologist, and my condition is stable. You'd never know I have any eye issues at all, since I blitz around the yard and act just as normal as can be!
Since being rescued, I've been neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested (negative) and put on preventative, vaccinated, dewormed, and had a dental cleaning. I'm being fed a high-quality food that doesn't contain any corn, wheat, soy, meat by-products or other low-quality ingredients, and I hope my new family will continue to feed me a high-quality food for the rest of my life. I'm being fostered in Madrid, IA, and my adoption fee is $300. I definitely need to go to a home with another socialized dog to help me continue to learn to trust and a fenced yard for safety. If you're interested in adopting me, please contact Margaret at loveforbichons@gmail.com to request an application.
The application process with Safe Haven Bichon and Friends Rescue includes an application, reference checks, and a home visit. We do not ship dogs on planes or send them on transports. Adopters need to come to the foster home to do the adoption.
