My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

All potential adopter’s will need to be approved to adopt from MWBCR and should visit our website at www.mwbcr.org for more information on the approval process.

Carbon is chilling and watching the snow fall from his vantage point near the back door. He is, I am quite sure, longing for a forever family that will treasure him for the big lovable dog that he is.

Of course, like humans, he is not perfect. He doesn’t get along with all dogs, although he has been making great progress and is learning to share and cooperate. In fact, he recently spent time with our MWBCR president’s dogs to refine his doggie manners. His forever family will need to take him to obedience class and other structured activities so that he can continue the socialization process and meet and greet other dogs properly. He still is a bit unsure of himself, so it would be best if his forever family had children ages 10 and up.

That said, he is a joy to have around. He’ll stand on his hind legs to give you a hug, or bring you his frisbee to throw. He’ll follow you wherever you go and pokes his nose around, curious about everything you do. He knows not to get on the furniture and very rarely barks. And he’ll dash to the car if he thinks you’re going for a drive, and rest quietly for the ride. This dog loves to go! He‘ll eagerly join you for a long run or a brisk walk and likes nothing better than to play fetch in the yard. He’s learning new skills and tricks quickly, and just this week is working on “leave it!,” crawl and spin.

Please feel free to ask any questions about Carbon — although he can’t answer personally, his foster mom can!

Carbon is enjoying his foster home, where you’ll find him playing with his new tug toy, chewing on a bone, looking out the windows for squirrels or just chilling on the living room floor. He likes you to toss his ball and squeaky toys around, and will retrieve them for hours, literally. He’ll also beg you for some scratches behind his ears and will put his paws around you for a warm hug. He’ll greet all visitors enthusiastically and recently ran across the street to say hello to the mailman, who, thankfully, is a dog lover.

This big boy can sniff out food from miles away. He’ll lead you to his bag of dog food and look at it, then at you, when he’s hungry. He was a bit thin, but he’s getting extra food and treats. He’s so tall he can peruse your counters for possible crumbs, but we are working on discouraging that! When he wants to go out, he whimpers in a small voice, then leads you to the door. He’s perfectly house trained.

He still needs help when meeting other dogs up close, and training sessions are underway. Right now, he’s good as an only dog, and likes nothing better than hanging out with his people, whether just sitting around, taking a walk or riding in the car.

Carbon is a big, sweet boy and he is so east to love. He’s tall (24 inches), weighs about 56 pounds and is almost 3 years old. He has luxurious fur and the most beautiful copper-colored eyes. Besides that, he excels in the personality department. He’s gentle and affectionate, and will come when called. He absolutely loves to explore outside, especially when it involves a game of frisbee. He’ll need some play time every day to keep him from being bored. He is also easily trained — he knows “sit”, and is learning “down” and “touch.” He walks nicely on a leash, and just loves to ride in the car. He’s learning to rest quietly in his crate. If you’re watching TV or reading at night, he’ll sleep by your side, wherever you happen to be — where you are, he is!

Carbon loves his food! He has a huge appetite, and will do tricks for treats. He’s also able to play on his own with a ball or squeaky toy. He greets adults calmly, but with enthusiasm. He’s best as an only dog right now, but we will be working on his ability to meet and greet other dogs.
