Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Winston came to Animal Rescue Friends Network Inc. (ARF'N) from a small, rural high kill shelter in northern Florida. He came with 2 other dogs. One of those was returned to owner, but Winston and his buddy Bruno did not get to go home. They were on the euthanasia list, so we agreed to take both of them. Winston suffered from stress related hair loss, but now that he is in his foster home eating good food and receiving TLC, he is back to a healthy weight and his hair has grown back in. Winston is about 12 pounds which is a good weight for him. He loves to explore the backyard and gets along with SOME small dogs and cats, but not all. He has not been around larger dogs in his foster home. In the house, he likes to lie beside you. Winston is timid and shy from some unknown abuse in the past, so he will take time to warm up to his new family, but once he does, he is a devoted boy. Winston is about 18 months to 2 years old and is expected to have a life span of 15+ years. Winston is looking to enjoy a family for his lifetime.
Winston does currently require baths regularly to keep his skin in good condition. He also must eat a grain-free rabbit blend dog food. This is a common issue for Cairn Terriers.
ARF'N accepts applications from people between the ages of 21 and 65. We would consider applications from potential adopters up to age 70 for our senior pets. This will be determined on a case by case basis. Active seniors would be considered as foster parents since fostering is a temporary situation.
ARF'N primarily adopts only to residents in the counties surrounding Hernando County in central Florida or within a 60-90 min. drive from the Brooksville/Spring Hill areas. The reason for this is that we personally conduct home visits for each of our rescued pets to ensure they are getting a safe home.
The application can be found here: http://www.arfn.org/adoption-application/
Email questions to: info@arfn.org. We do not have a phone number to reach us.
Our adoption fees for dogs range between $100 and $250. All of our pets come completely vetted (spay/neuter, vaccinations, heart worm tested, on heart worm prevention, and a microchip).
ARF'N is a rescue operated by volunteers with full-time professional jobs during the day. We can't always get back to you immediately. Most of our rescue work happens in the evenings and on the weekends. It can typically take up to two weeks to go from application to adoption. More time is required for pets with multiple applications and during holidays. We do not adopt on a first come, first served basis. We find the best match between pet and adopter. Please be patient with us through this process. Rude emails will disqualify you from adopting from us.
