My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This handsome fellow here is Buck! Buck was sadly surrendered to a city shelter by his previous owners for not being friendly with other dogs. As the shelter does not allow public adoptions, A.H.A.R.T. with the help of a loving foster home stepped in and rescued this sweet boy to give him a chance at a forever home. While Buck has not been properly socialized with other animals, he has definitely been socialized with people. In typical lab fashion, Buck absolutely adores everyone he meets.Buck is good health, however, he is recovering from a case of "Happy Tail." While Buck was in the shelter, he would wag his tail so often and so hard that the tip of his tail sustained a injury from hitting the wall of his kennel. Since being in his foster home and having more room to stretch his legs, Buck's tail is healing up nicely and it still hasn't stopped wagging.
Buck is a cheerful, fun and very affectionate dog. He has been well behaved when left alone and has had no accidents in his foster home. Buck does walk nicely on a leash, though he does occasionally need a small reminder to stay in the heel position as he tends to get excited when he is out and about. Buck also knows basic commands such as sit, down, shake a paw and will come when called. Buck can be reactive when seeing other dogs in the street and his foster dad is working with him on curbing this behaviour. Buck is very food and praise motivated so he can be distracted and is improving each day. Buck is fairly high energy when he is outside, however, he is a total couch potato in the home and wants nothing more than to cuddle up to his person. Buck would do well with a family with children as long as his exercise needs are being met and his interactions with other animals are being controlled. We would love to see Buck go to an experienced handler or someone who is willing to work on his socialization and reactions towards other dogs. Buck does need to be the only dog in the home at this time.Overall, Buck is a delightful, handsome and well rounded dog. He is quiet and could live happily in an apartment, however, he would also enjoy a house with a nice, safe backyard to run around in. If Buck seems like your kind of guy, please submit an adoption application through our website for consideration. We are hoping that this boy will have his home for the holidays.
