Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Roland is a little dog who needs an experienced dog owner. He was in danger at the rural shelter he found himself in after attempting to bite the shelter director. We've included his shelter picture, a scruffy little unkept guy. We decided to tackle him and are glad we did. Even though his trip to the groomer proved that a tranquilizer is required (the groomer confirmed he is a biter), we have had very little issue here with him in rescue. A trip to the vet revealed he has lots of worn down and damaged teeth from being confined for long periods of time and we think a dental will be a good start to helping improve his discomfort. However, in rescue, he has been a happy playful little dog who gets along with all the other small dogs. He shares a crate with another terrier and they wrestle and play and get along perfectly. He loves going for walks. With patience and understanding we think he will become much more predictable. He just seems very sensitive to any kind of discomfort or pain and does not like having feet or mouth handled. These are all things we are working with him on. We have observed that if he gives a growl, we give him a moment, and he is over it. We have gone from caution to scooping him up without a worry so he is capable of learning that there is nothing to fear. As we continue to work with him we also believe that because of his bite history, that an experienced home with calm energy and no children is his only option. But we are very confidant that he is showing a turnaround and we are enjoying this happy little guy.
Roland's adoption fee will be $250. to help offset the costs of getting him ready for adoption. He has been brought up to date on vaccinations and parasite control. He will be neutered, microchipped, heartworm tested and receive a dental prior to adoption.
For more info on Roland and to check in on his progress, please contact DAWN @ BLACKDOGSRESCUE@ICLOUD.COM. When Roland is ready to meet his pre-approved adopter, he will be available at a public meet and greet in Hagerstown, MD.
