This active and athletic little guy is looking for his forever home. Chewy is 2 years old, 14 pounds, and a loving, energetic bundle of joy!
He is very athletic and will do best in an active family, or with an older couple that has another dog for him to play with.
Chewy is also quite the little climber, as we are finding out. He can easily scale a 30-inch baby gate and can climb over a 4-foot tall fence. We wouldn’t put it past him to make it over an even taller fence, so a backyard that is safe, completely enclosed, and large enough for him to have room to run and play -- always under a watchful eye -- is preferred.
Chewy is housebroken, but he needs to be managed when not in a kennel. He will not ask to go out, but if he is taken out on a regular basis, he doesn’t have accidents in the home. Because he could have accidents if left home alone for longer periods of time, he should be kenneled when nobody is home to monitor him.
Since he is young and has plenty of energy, Chewy would make an excellent hiking companion or a great agility dog. He would love any outdoor activity that would help him burn off his energy!
Chewy loves to play with other dogs and will often initiate playtime with his foster siblings.
He is shy and can appear standoffish when meeting new humans. He takes his time getting to know people, but his trust does grow each day. Once he knows you well and understands what you expect of him, he will become the perfect little constant companion! He may not be good for a home with constant visitors since his shyness with new people does take some time for him to overcome.
Chewy is very loving and playful and is very comfortable being held and snuggled. He really responds to positive feedback.
As for feeding time, Chewy can be food-aggressive, so he should be fed away from other dogs or fed in a kennel during his mealtime.
Chewy is a Smart, Quick, and Clever little dog. Consistency will be the key to his success in a new home, and once he is fitting in nicely, the rewards you will get from this little guy will be unending! His foster mom says he is one of the best dogs she has ever fostered!
Chewy does have a longer coat and a beard. He was shaved down before we got him but his coat and beard will grow back, we promise! Either way, he is still such a cutie pie!
Do you have the time and patience to devote to this handsome little guy? All he needs is to be loved and cared for the rest of his life and will give back way more in return!
Chewy is current on all vaccinations and is heartworm-negative and on heartworm preventative.
Chewy is being fostered in the northern Denver, Colorado area. .
Keep in mind that we prefer to place dogs within driving distance of where they are being fostered. If someone from outside the local area is approved for adoption, they must be willing to fly in to get the dog and that can only happen if the dog is stable enough to travel in the cabin with the passenger.
