Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Hi, I’m Zerk!
I’m a fawn merle, and I’m 4 years old.
My former owner said that I’m a purebred Great Dane. Because of my size, some rescue volunteers think I might be half Mastiff/half Great Dane. Only my biological parents know for sure. Nonetheless, my foster momma doesn’t care because she says that I’m the biggest, gentlest giant that ever was!
I have a great sense of humor and everybody who meets me all say that they want to show me off to their friends and family. Of course, once people get over what seems to be an imposing size, they have all been taken in my by warm ways.
I love to chase birds. My foster momma says that I’m truly fun for her to watch. I love to play tug-tug games. I’ve been told that I add insult to injury to my foster family’s pride, when after minutes of honest effort of tugging, I simply sit down and continue the game. My silly foster family just won’t give up and still try to pull with all their strength and pressure. Eventually, my foster family smartened up and decided that they might rent me out to the high school for the football strength and conditioning camp.
With my foster momma’s help, I’ve learned the hierarchy in her family. She also helped me learn to understand what my boundaries are, how to share food with her other dogs. I really need at least one family member to be my “pack leader”. Once I understood and respected my boundaries, I’ve lowered my guard so I could finally let myself really play! Now that I’m relaxed, I feel safe in communicating with my foster family with my growl. Whenever I growl, I’m asking for petting, or to have my head scratched, or come play with me!
I love to sleep in my family member’s bedroom. I love receiving and giving kisses, adults and kids!
I know I’m a big dog and I’m usually aware of it, so I take great care not to knock anyone down. I do have to warn you --- if I have a full bladder and need to go out or see my favorite snack (Beggin’ Strip), watch out! I’ll come running hard and I can’t really see humans’ feet and might step on their toes!
I don’t really comprehend that I’m staying with my foster family temporarily. Because when I come into a household it takes me a day or two to transitions, but then I bond with family members and I am very loyal to them. I do know that my foster momma says that she promises me a good, forever family for me.
If you’re interested in me, and you want a big buddy who will lay at your feet or by your side, please contact the Forever Friends Great Dane Rescue (FFGDR) and you want to adopt me!
