11/25/14: EMERGENCY SURGERY FOR CHARLIE
Poor Charlie had to have emergency surgery at a Specialty Hospital to retrieve cloth fabric from his stomach and intestines. Luckily the surgeon was able to "milk" some of the pieces that were in his small intestines back into his stomach so no incisions had to be made in his intestinal wall. Hopefully he will recover without incident but the doctors will reevaluate him further when he has recuperated from his operation.
Please remember to act quickly if your dog is showing any signs of a gastrointestinal blockage. Young dogs are notorious for eating foreign objects such as bedding, blankets, socks, toys etc., and adult dogs will often eat things such as cat litter, corn cobs and used aluminum foil which are all particularly dangerous.
If you suspect that your dog has swallowed an inappropriate item do not wait to see a doctor. The longer a foreign body stays inside your dog the more dangerous it becomes. Many dogs have died needlessly because they did not get prompt treatment. Charlie 's surgery was expensive but his life was worth the cost.
11/2/14: Charlie Is A Cute Quirky Little Guy
Charlie is a super excited 1 year old Boxer saved from death row at animal control. He was at the Shelter for more than a month before we heard about his plight. None of the other Rescue groups stepped up to help and, although we have no available foster homes, NBR was able to secure a temporary foster so this sweet young boy did not die.
When Charlie was taken to the Vet his exam went well. Luckily he was heartworm negative. He did have an eye infection but that will clear up quickly with medication.
We have no history about Charlie. What we have learned is that this boy absolutely loves to play, play, and play some more. He is getting help working on his manners and learning all about being a house dog like potty training and crate training. He may do best as an only dog so all the attention is focused on him since he has probably never had much affection. He is a bit hyper for young and small children so would recommend an adult home or a family with older kids.
Please consider fostering or adopting Charlie.

“I am in love with Charlie. He is a quirky little guy. He is doing really well and starting to learn how to be an indoor dog. My gut feeling tells me he was a chained dog with no freedom or human love. He runs around my back yard like a crazy man so fast that he trips over his long legs.”
