My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Harry! He is a mastiff/hound mix, estimated to be around 3 years old, 75 pounds and has a moderate energy level. This handsome, brindle fella is quite the looker and has gone through quite the transformation! You see, Harry wasn't always so hairy. When CRI volunteers rescued this beautiful boy he was covered in fleas and was bald from dermatitis and mange. He was emaciated and sickly, but still very sweet, friendly and looking for someone to call family. After his initial exam with his vet he was placed in a boarding facility where he healed from his wounds and his hair started growing back in to show us his true colors; brindle to be exact. After he was given some time to recover and learned some basic training, he went into our HEEL program where he learned how to interact with teenagers who needed a fresh start too. He passed this class with flying colors, attended a graduation ceremony, has spent some time in a foster home and is now eagerly awaiting his forever family! Harry is a lover and will follow his people to the ends of the earth! He likes to snuggle up on the couch with his head resting right on your lap or to lie at your feet while you work. He is a social guy and would enjoy doggy daycare, dog parks and running errands. This guy really would like to live with another big dog or at least a dog closer to his size than the Chihuahua he currently lives with, so he could play! His current buddy is just not a good match for him since he's about 10 times larger. He also currently lives with cats, but Harry would likely do better in a home without them. Harry can be a little shy with strangers depending on the situation, but quickly warms up to them. He does well with the adults and the teens at the HEEL program, but hasn't been around many small children. We think a household with older kids would be better for Harry since he still can get a little nervous with chaos and loud noises. This is no surprise considering where he used to live was noisy and very dangerous for a stray. He is still a young guy with plenty of energy and very much looks forward to his morning walks -he even walks with a backpack on-and other adventures. He will need a home where he can get out and enjoy walks, dog parks and any other exercise that his human friends participate in. He's not a guy that wants to sit at home all day, although he does enjoy some couch time each evening too. Harry clearly didn't have a suitcase of belongings when he was rescued, so now that he is figuring out that he has his own stuff, he can get a little possessive of it if he feels someone else is checking it out. This is another reason why Harry would prefer a house without little pets or little people. Harry is eager to please and can sit, stay, lie down, and 'bang' (HEEL program's version of play dead). His favorite treat is cheese and he would learn many new tricks if you would supply him with just a few bites! He is EXCELLENT with his leash walking! He's been trained to stay on the left side of someone and does so very nicely. He can get overwhelmed easily with too many traffic noises and some strangers, so a new family should be aware of that and help him continue to learn that he is safe out in the world. He has been working so hard on this and has already made amazing progress with his foster family. Harry enjoys having his own crate because it is a place he knows is safe when his people are away. Harry is ready to continue his journey with his forever family, so please consider this big, sweet boy today! Harry is currently living with a foster mom in Seattle. Harry's adoption fee is $150.
