My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Jake. He’s thrilled to meet you. Jake has an exuberant, people and dog-loving personality. We’re not sure about cats yet. He does want to please and is learning how a little more everyday. Jake is considered predominately a Blue Heeler, which is also known as an Australian Cattle Dog, and part Lab. As you can see, his coat is shiny black over a very handsome “blue” speckling. The end of his tail is tipped white as if dipped in paint. His coat is silky smooth and needs minimal care. Brushing once or twice a week should be sufficient to keep shedding to a minimum. With the type of coat he has, he always looks good. At about 40 pounds, he sports a lean, muscular physique. His vaccinations are up to date, and he has been neutered and microchipped.

Jake is a dog with a lot of energy to spare. His age is estimated at one year or older so there is still a lot of puppy energy in there. He has been quite busy in his foster home with the family dog, a Shepherd/Boxer mix named Chessie. He and Chessie spend much time playing in the house and outside. The rest of the time they’re recuperating from all the fun. She has been showing him the ropes and helping him with his doggy manners. Jake is learning to sit, stay, “free”, (“ok” to do whatever it is you’re about to let him do), “lounge”, (lay down), shake, and above all - patience. He walks quite well on a leash. His foster home provided him with a special harness that doesn’t hurt and guides him well. He would do well in a home where he has lots of opportunities for exercise to burn off some of that young dog energy. While he tends to be submissive, all dogs will try to be in charge given the chance. Jake is no exception. A consistent and patient forever home is just what he needs to be a loving and treasured family member.
